How do you guys feel about this? It has to be seen as a huge setback. Any hopes of contention will go out the door with him, imo.

Is Joe Smith going to stick with the team, or do you guys think they might let him be bought out, ala McDyess?

So why are the Hornets doing this? Luxury tax? Gearing up for the 2010 free agent run?

Do they feel confident enough in Hilton Armstrong to unload Chandler?

Any help would be great, I just don't see why this trade happened at all.

Mark it down.....the Hornets will be re-locating to Seattle within 3 years. This is the beginning of the end for the Hornets.

The Hornets did this move not as a move to get better but simply because they are in extreme financial trouble. They are in debt like 30 mill or something and had to get this done. Both the Saints and Hornets are in trouble of losing their teams if you notice the Saints just released Deuce McCalister today as well. It isn't a matter of getting better but a matter of business. However, the city of New Orleans does owe these teams several million dollars so once they get that they might be a little more prepared to sign a free agent either this summer or in 2010.

I'm sorry for the Hornets and the fans as this move is an unfortunate setback due to financial constraints.

You guys should have traded Peja not Chandler. Peja's contract is bigger and I think Tyson has much more value to your team.

Most of what I've seen is that Peja's contract was almost completely untradable (without some very large incentives).

You answered your own question as to why Peja wasn't traded. Peja's contract is bigger and I think Tyson has much more value to other teams.

Joe Smith is a lot better than you'd think. If you guys use him, he'll be huge for you.

What I don't understand is why did NO sign Posey to that big contract if they were cashed strapped or if they were not poised to compete for a championship? Would NO still trade Chandler if the Posey signing never happened?

I think NO was willing to take the hit if they had a top team contending for a title, they panicked when they seen they are barely a playoff team.

While it leaves less talent at the C spot you guys did get depth

Wilcox is not great help defender but a decent man defender, no blocks but he can finish around the rim

Paul/Daniels
Butler/Peterson
Peja/Posey/ Wright
West/ Joe Smith/ Melvin Ely
Wilcox/ Hilton Armstrong

Joe smith can be solid off the bench
