Game 2: Hornets @ Nuggets Series

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:00 pm

Who: New Orleans Hornets(7) @ Denver Nuggets(2)
When: Wednesday April 22nd
Where: The Pepsi Center in Denver, CO
Time: 9:30 PM CST
TV/Radio: TNT/KMEZ 106.7 FM
Season Series: Tied at 2-2
Team Trivia: Chris Andersen played for the Hornets from 2004-06, and again in 2007-08. In 106 games, Andersen averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game.

NOLA/Denver Preview

NOLA- Key players have battled injuries throughout the season and in some ways are still stuck in that battle. With that said, the Hornets can't afford to let that distract them against the more healthy Nuggets team. As expect, the man of the hour Chris Paul a.k.a. CP3 has to bring the noise as usual through his passing game, his slashing, his ability to take the game over, and his leadership to keep the team's confidence at a great high. David West has to be strong offensively against Kenyon Martin to keep CP3 from taking the load on himself throughtout the series. Peja Stojakovic needs to contribute from the perimeter so the Nuggets defense stay spread out. The X-Factor himself James Posey has to hit key shots for the Hornets and make his presence felt on the defensive end on the court. I expect him to be match up against Melo at times throughout the series. Rebounding is a concern for the Hornets as Tyson Chandler hasn't been playing up to par during the season due to injuries. His effective on the glass and on defense will determine if the Hornets will dominate the glass with authority.

Nuggets- The Nuggets are healthy and energized by the trade of Chauncey Billups earlier in the season as the true PG the Nuggets needed. Billups is well known for making the clutch shots, strong defense, and has a ring to prove it. This Nuggets team like the Hornets as athletic and are capable of getting up and down the floor, especiallly in transition offense. Carmelo Anthony leads the Nuggets with 22pts a game and will look to impose their will early as the Nuggets have HCA in Denver. Kenyon Martin and Nene are the anchormen on defense and the boards for the Nuggets as they wil look to impose their will on the Hornets frontcourt. The X-Factor for them is JR Smith. His athleticism and ability to score quickly for the Nuggets will be key in this series. If his game is on, look for the Hornets to put Julian Wright or James Posey on him to keep Smith from burning the Hornets up. If the Nuggets get in trouble, that means the transition offense was limited, CP3 becomes too much to handle, JR Smith didn't play to par as the Nuggets X-Factor. Melo forces the issue on offense and is force to play from the perimeter. Martin and Nene have foul trouble in the playoffs.

Expectant winner: Hornets in 7

A game thread on the Hornets board? Whoa!! Thanks SD2042 :)

Big game for both teams, Nene is suspended, Hilton is 50/50, so we'll prolly see some small ball from both squads, really depends on Carmelo/JR Smith's shooting tonight IMO, if they both go off the Nuggets will prolly have too much fire power. If the Hornets can keep the Nuggets under 100 points we'll win for sure

Geaux Hornets!

Other than the Blazer and Laker fans  what's wrong with it?

Edit: I see an error and think I see I see what you are getting at, the records and date are/is wrong, this was a game thread from the season, but it still works, SD just needed to edit the records and the date, and I wouldn't even have noticed a difference.

Seems like I already contributed to the cause without knowing. I will go ahead and make some changes to the game thread to suit the playoff atmosphere.

Congrats on making the Playoffs Hornets and good luck against the Nuggets.

The only way we will get any traffic on this board is if Chris Paul pulls a massive flop that wins a game, so we can just make this the official playoff thread.

Gest of luck tonight and in this series guys.

I love to watch Paul play and want to see your team advance.

But even more than that I have this unnatural dislike for the Nuggets.

Every time I see them play they smile. Now, it's not a crime to smile, I know. But they all smile this smug, annoying, rotten cheese eating ugly grin. And they do it a lot.

Maybe I'm insane, and maybe I just imagine it, but I see it and when I do I hate them.

Just beat them so I don't have to see those ugly ass grins anymore.

You guys are stupid for not giving MoPete any playing time. A great set shooter, which you NEED with Chris Paul penetrating. Great defensively who's great at flopping/taking charges. Byron Scott's an idiot for not giving Mopete any playing time.

More likely Mo-Pete fell out of the rotation b/c of lack of consistancy. He is known for going from hot to cold on the court at times.

Hornets bombed by the Nuggets 113-84 on Sunday in game 1 of the Hornets/Nuggets series.

Hornets shot an abysmal 37% from the field to the Nuggets 51%.
Chris Paul and David West together went 11-35 from the field. These two have to be in sync for the Hornets along wit hthe rest of the squad if they wish to stay competitive in this series.
Hornets were outrebounded by the Nuggets 49-35 with Nene collecting 14rebs to David West who lead the Hornets rebounding column with 6rebs. 37-25 of the rebounds were defensive. These numbers suggest the obvious that the Hornets aren't boxing out to collect the rebounds.
X-Factor James Posey went 1-5 from the field for 2pts vs. JR Smith who went 8-18 from the field for 19pts.

Game 2 on Wednesday
