Studcrackers poses a valid question for the new guys. A reminder to you three, this is a H2H league with R, HR, RBIs, SB, AVG as the offensive categories and W, Ks, SV, ERA, WHIP as the pitching categories. Just your standard head-to-head league.

tough decision, i'll risk waiting and hoping to get the player i really want and take for now CC Sabathia
i haven't been in a standard 5X5 league in a while, normally i like doin stuff like ops/obp and hits and walks
oh well

I have to love the back-to-back picks. Tough choice though because I am trying to predict the next couple of picks. I would be a fool to pass up Mauer because he is a solid catcher and there aren't too many secondbase men in this dispersal draft.
First pick: Joe Mauer
Second pick: Ian Kinsler
Let's hope this next couple of picks go the way I thought they would

i was also curious as to how the lineup's would be and if we have 3 OF spots or rf/cf/lf? and the pitchers spot is it 2 SP, 2 RP's and 2 P's or what?

Re: 2008/2009 MLB Dynasty League (Stud is up, Mauve on deck)
Someone didn't take a look at the recruitment thread. Here's a copy of what I wrote:
Hey everybody, what's up? I'm Sett, one of your highly-esteemed fantasy baseball mods and I run the FFDL for baseball. We pride ourselves on being the best fantasy league at RealGM and have been very successful and competitive in our first three (four?) seasons. There's a league thread on here, but I don't any of you prospective managers to comb all the way through it. Basically, the league is in the biggest state of flux we've ever seen and the pressure is on to stabilize the equilibrium by adding two more very capable, very devoted managers.
We're mostly mods and longtime posters but less experienced posters are welcome to apply for a spot if think you can prove to me that you'll be a shrewd and devoted manager. Our current league includes: myself, BennyBlanco, Basketball Jesus, Sunshinekids99, TyCobb, Chach, Bigboy1234, Bove310, Sosafan70 and we've already added one to our ranks this offseason in Studcrackers. Our list of former managers (who've mostly had to step down due time commitment concerns) include sly, BleedingGreen, SportsWorld and, of course, Kg2005.
Here's a general league overview for you guys: 25 man senior roster with C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, UTIL, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, IR, IR and then seven bench spots as the positions. As a dynasty league you keep all 25 players from season to season so most guys have around a 10-20 player core that doesn't change year to year except through trades. There's what we call a ROOK/FA draft every year that rewards managers with the highest waiver priority and it's basically a one round draft giving the top waiver guys priority on a new Japanese import, a new closer or just someone who's emerged that got looked over. You can only pick from the Yahoo! database so there's no snagging Pedro Alvarez through this process, just to name a name.
There's also a minor league system, capped at a max of 10 players per team, which is replenished each season through a prospect draft. There's no minimum requirement for the minors so it's up to each manager what emphasis they want to place on it and often managers use a pick as a bartering chip in trades of senior roster players. I'll go into more detail once you join the league but basically once the player has played enough that their rookie eligibility is over and they're not a minor leaguer any more then you have to bring them up, renounce your rights, or face a penalty.
It's a pretty simple league outside of the minor league system. Just your basic 12-team head-to-head format with R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG and ERA, W, SV, K, WHIP as your cats.
Now, what's going on with the manager situation? Well, in past years we've never lost more than one guy, but this year there's three spot to fill. So, instead of just handing the new guy(s) a team, we're making it interesting and doing a dispersal draft. Part of the reason for this is that kg2005 had by far the best of the three teams, but the bigger reason is to get you new managers involved immediately. I think it'll boost your interest to have been able to hand-pick your players to an extent instead of just being given a bunch of jamokes you don't like.

By the way, since the draft results were kind of on a random page, I'm also posting the results on the first post of the thread. Easy access for you guys.

While Liriano has some great stuff, I don't think I'd be able to take him there. Like the balls of the pick tho, would have had a hard time passing up a 28 year old pitcher that is still available.

Wow. This is simply amazing. I was talking to Jon about this earlier in the day, about how amazing it worked out for him that you're in a position where you almost have to go position player and snag Russell Martin and how David Price would fall all the way to him. All I have to say is: THWARTED.

If you guys would like to see what your rosters are looking like as they shape up, Stud and Kaz, yours are at the bottom of page one, while Mauve, yours is at the top of page two.
