Also, this is getting a bit messy here, but I think Rosenthal was going to be Angel's pick, he PM'd me asking about him last night after I had gone to sleep, but before insfo made his pick. He's still a prospect at this point and I mentioned it a couple times to lay off them in the FA draft.

Angel also brought up another good clarification point. Guys like Ryu for the Dodgers, based on precedent we've always considers imports who will spend no time in the minors to be for the FA draft and not the prospect draft. This follows how we treated guys like Darvish, Matsuzaka, etc.

That was before I read up more on him

Ok, so he was up last year. He's gonna make the team this year as an 8th inning guy to start and possibly close at some point if the Motte remains injured and/or the replacement closer can't do the job. We are considering Ryu who hasn't played a single inning in the major leagues for the FA draft. So why can't Rosenthal be an option as well ??

Don't mean to be a pain and will stick around to re-pick if needed.

Yeah, but he was a minor leaguer and hasn't reached his 50 IP yet, thus still a prospect. Bundy was up last fall and he's still a prospect. I just thought we clarified in that PM you sent and the messages I've put on he thread about holding off on prospect-eligible guys because that draft is still going on and in the rather early part of it. By all accounts, Rosenthal is one of the elite prospects available.

Like I said, with Ryu, we have a precedent that new imports that go straight to the majors are considered MLB players. Other guys, like the younger international signings, go in the prospect draft.

But the thing is Bundy is not the right comparison, since he was on a Minor league roster last year and is not on the ML team of the Orioles this year.

And what happens if someone had picking Rosenthal up as a FA at the end of last year? Is that disallowed too?

Anyway, there is precedent for this as well, with (ironically) Jason Motte getting picked in the FA draft after pitching all of 11 innings the previous year. I can look some more if you want, but just wanted to throw this out there.

Alright, well I'm vetoing the Rosenthal pick. Tough luck. And there is no precedent because we always do the prospect draft first and then prospects in the Yahoo system are available. Blame me for the late start if you want, but I said clearly several times to lay off the prospects because of the special situation. The fact that Rosenthal was going to be Angel's just backs up why I laid out not to pick those guys. You had a chance to draft Rosenthal, you tried to game the system instead and I vetoed it. Time to move on and pick someone else. There are plenty of other worthwhile FAs

I see both sides but in spirit Rosenthal should be a prospect. It'd be one thing if someone picked him up and dropped him last year but thats not the case. I think he should be a prospect.

Please, don;t make me out to be the next bigboy!!! No need for accusations like that though. Anyway, I formally withdraw that pick and will make a FA pick again soon.
