Looking to get into baseball more. Help?

Post#1 » by Naan » Sun Apr 11, 2010 3:15 pm

I've only followed the Mets on and off and know essentially nothing about other teams except the stats posted about them during Met games. I wanted to sustain my interest, so through fantasy baseball I might have done just that. I know there's a fantasy board, but I figured I'd get a few more answers here first if that's alright. If anyone could explain the positions and stats further, even the players relative to their teams, it'd be greatly appreciated. You could suggest roster moves as well, but I could make a different thread on the right board. Basically, I don't necessarily need advice about moves to make, I just need to know the basics about stats and positions, so I know how to follow the sport and make my moves based on my findings...if any of that makes sense.

(Head-To-Head)
Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL
Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Hits (H), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Complete Games (CG), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)

1. (5) Chase Utley 2B
2. (16) Carl Crawford OF
3. (25) CC Sabathia SP
4. (36) Jimmy Rollins SS
5. (45) Mark Reynolds 1B,3B
6. (56) Adam Lind OF
7. (65) B.J. Upton OF
8. (76) Javier Vázquez SP
9. (85) Josh Beckett SP
10. (96) Shane Victorino OF
11. (105) Lance Berkman 1B
12. (116) Brian Fuentes RP
13. (125) Kurt Suzuki C

20. (196) Max Scherzer SP

I'm not sure you want help on, but no, do not trad Vlad for that. Your draft looks pretty good, especially for someone who says they don't follow the game much. I'd start Martin over Suzuki and shop Suzuki to someone who has a crap catcher.

Thanks. Someone advised me to shop Vázquez for Garza, Weaver, Cain, Wandy, Nolasco or someone at their level. What do you think?

My advice? Don't ever listen to them for advice.

Tim Lincecum
Roy Halladay
Dan Haren
Zack Greinke
CC Sabathia
Chris Carpenter
Johan Santana
Felix Hernandez
Adam Wainwright

Are the only SP I would trade Vasquez for in a one season league. Meaning I think he is a top 10 SP. His ERA is notoriously hard to project, but you better believe he is going to get a lot of wins and strikeouts.
