1st Year Keeper League

Post#1 » by ChronicKerr » Thu Mar 1, 2012 4:22 pm

Doing a 1st year keeper league this year. 12 team 5x5 roto league snake draft. 5 players kept MAX from year to year. I got the 4th pick. Sounds to me like Miggy, Kemp, Braun will go 1-3. Who do I take at 4 and who should I target in 2-4 to compliment that pick?

This is what I would probably shoot for,

4 - A Rockie
21 - A Marlin (not Reyes)
28 - Lawrie/Strasburg
45 - Trout
52 - Harper
69 - JJohnson
76 - MMoore

Naw, what you forgot to mention was 5 max keeps which you slyly edited in afterwards (which changes things a little) and that you know nothing about baseball if you don't think my answer was serious.

You listed all young guys, some of which aren't even guarenteed an opening day starting spot. I'm trying to win THIS year as well as at least stockpile a few guys I can keep for years to come. We can keep 3 minimum and 5 max regardless of position. I agree that this format should have been posted originally as it takes away the keep your whole team (dynasty) aspect of drafting young and planning for the future throughout to a certain extent.

I assume you were talking about Tulo and Giancarlo in 1-2 (Hanley will be gone by 21)?

Is passing over Pujols at 4 for Bautista or Tulo smart?

Big things expected from Lawrie this year?

Yes, I don't think Trout or Harper are guaranteed starting spots this year, but they have fantasy studs written all over them.

I meant Tulo or Cargo, I think Cargo is right there with Kemp as the best fantasy points provider, but Tulo is only a handful of guys down that list and has the positional advantage, and SS only has a handful of guys while you can get a lot of OF.

Then I meant Stanton or Hanley, pretty much exactly the same as the above statement, the negative with Hanley is he doesn't have SS eligibility after this year most likely.

Did you see what Lawrie did last season? And he just turned 22. Is he a little risky? Yeah, but compare it to what else you are going to get at 28. Or Strasburg who has a chance to be an all-time level great player.

I'm guessing he won't go top 8 or so in my league. Age and BA fluke scare people off in a 1st year keeper coulpled with not knowing if he'll be 3B eligible going forward. I'm struggling with passing on Pujols. I just don't know if I can pass on him. The other two I'm considering are Tulo and Upton.
