I missed this post. I consider Tomas a prospect because he's still an appropriate age (24) for that and it's not a sure thing he starts out in the majors and not AA or AAA. What do other people think?

i say he is a FA since he signed a major league deal. If the player was signed from the international bonus pool, then they should be a prospect, otherwise Fa.

Soler and Moncada were major-league deals that were drafted as prospects in this league.

The difference is they were/are teenagers and Moncada is 24. That's why Soler and Moncada (with more upside) got $30-ish million and Tomas got $68.5 million. Because everyone knew Soler and Moncada need/needed years in the minors, whereas Tomas is 5 years older and ready to play now. I highly, highly doubt the Diamondbacks are paying him $11 million to play in AAA. He's over 80% owned in Yahoo, that's someone everyone expects to start in the majors.

I shouldn't have brought up the major league deals. The difference should be determined by the international bonus pool money or not for these foreign players.

That doesn't change anything, neither Soler or Moncada were subject to pool money because they're Cubans. They were still (rightfully) seen as prospects because they needed years in the minors.
