This season and beyond NO. Especially if this is a keeper league. Salty currently has the position flexibility of C/1st in a lot of leagues but there is a strong chance he gets moved off of C permanently. I've heard the Rangers are not in love with his defense and they have Teagarden and Ramirez in the minors who may be ready in a year or two. Salty loses a lot of his value if he moves to 1st. I think the best long term handling of the situation is for the Rangers to make Salty their back-up C with Teagarden being the starter in 2009. He would catch once or twice a week, Teagarden gets a ton of rest, Salty stays fresh but keeps his C eligibility. And if they carry a traditional back-up catcher then it gives them tremendous flexibility in terms of pinch hitting/running later in games. But that makes too much sense to happen so Salty is likely to move to first strictly and then he will be another Daric Barton, a nice young hitter but not a big masher at first whereas he would be one of the more productive bats behind the plate. mahalo
