BRAUN or CABRERA?

Post#1 » by 2009NBAChamps » Sat Mar 15, 2008 6:29 am

My drafts tommorow and I'm having trouble sleeping debating who I should take with my first round pick.

I've narrowed it down to these two at my position and was just wondering if anyone thinks Braun deserves to be picked ahead of Cabrera?

Input please guys.

Thanks

I know Cabrera is the safer pick, but Braun's SB total is what I'm so impressed with. His numbers basically eclipse D. Wright's totals from last year if he plays an entire season.

That said I've noticed his contact % is below the normal elite level status, indicating last year's season COULD just be a "fluke" of sorts.

It's a risk to take Braun, but is it one worth taking?

I am a huge fan of Braun. I think you will see his average drop a bit, down to th .300 range because of his K rate has always been a bit high even in the minors. He is a legit five tool player (even though he was a horrible defender at third). He stole 12 bases in 113 games this year so could see him pushing 20. Milwaukee is also going to have a tremendous offense as well, in a more hitter friendly part and division than Detroit. The only advantage to Miggy is his losing weight and his longer track record. Neither is wrong but I would personally go with Braun. He has a higher power potential, more speed, and two position flexibility in most leagues. mahalo

eh so turns out I ended up swapping first and second rounders with a guy near the end of the draft...

I get: Rollins and Fielder

He gets: Holliday and Peavy

I had the option of Braun at my pick but just didn't want to take a chance, and instead took the player at the rare(r) position.
