Which closer do I pick up? Answer ASAP!

Post#1 » by robertjanssen007 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:26 pm

Just had draft and waivers become available tomorrow. I am #1 on the priority list so I can choose anyone. Here's who's available:

Kevin Gregg
Troy Percival
Billy Wagner
Brandon Lyon
C.J. Wilson
Takashi Saito
Jon Rauch
Ryan Franklin
J.J. Putz
Jensen Lewis
Brad Ziegler

Give top 3 options.
Thanks!

Not a great list, but in my opinion: Gregg, Saito, Wilson

Easy: none

Those are all terrible options.

Ziegler, Lyon, and Gregg are the only ones who are going to get regular save chances and it's debatable how much either will get. I'd go with Ziegler first because Devine can't seem to stay healthy in his career so he might become Oakland's closer by default at some point. Do you really need a closer that bad that you'll blow your #1 priority on him? Aren't there more talented guys at other positions that you can pick up and then move an expendable player for a closer? mahalo

I guess my lack of baseball knowledge came through as I picked up Pervical last week mainly because he declared himself as "ready" to become the closer this season, he plays for a good team and his past success (though I do acknowledge his injury-proneness). I already have two closers in Rodriquez and Lidge--the only reason I wanted an extra because some teams have 3-4 closers in my league.

Looks like I screwed up with my priority.

Can someone fill me in on why you're discouraging Percival?

Just from the tone of the thread, looked like he wasn't worth the time.

Good call. I drafted Ziegler in my league yesterday and today Devine is on his way to see Dr. Andrews.
