The D-backs finish their three-game series with the Padres Thursday afternoon at PETCO Park.
The streaking D-backs, who have won 10 of their last 11 games, will send Yusmeiro Petit to the mound against San Diego ace Jake Peavy.
Petit retired 13 of the first 14 hitters he faced Friday against the Braves, with the only batter reaching on an error, before faltering. He ended up allowing five runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings to get the no-decision, with all the damage coming after one batter was retired in the fifth.
Peavy pitched like an ace in his last outing Friday, yielding four hits and one run in a win at Houston. He has pitched well against Arizona this season, allowing four earned runs in 12 1/3 innings, including a career-high-tying 16 strikeouts in seven shutout innings of two-hit ball on April 25.
Pitching matchup
ARI: RHP Yusmeiro Petit (2-2, 3.44 ERA)
Petit had not given up more than three runs in his five outings previous before Friday.
SD: RHP Jake Peavy (10-5, 2.41 ERA)
Peavy is 5-5 with a 3.36 ERA at home, compared to 5-0 with a 0.98 ERA on the road.
Finally, a real test for Yusmeiro, going up against Peavy, after bull-dozing through all those scrub match ups. Then again, Peavy isn't much of a threat after choking in the ASG. Damn scrub.
GOOOOOOOOOOOO DBACKS!!!!
