The waiver claim du jour for the Diamondbacks: Joe Kennedy.
The Diamondbacks were awarded a claim Saturday on the former Oakland left-hander, who has a 4.37 ERA in 101 innings.
Kennedy has spent most of the season as a starter, and was decent in that role with a 4.03 ERA in 16 starts. He hasn't started a game since failing to get out of the first inning of a start July 4 against Toronto.
Kennedy's splits against lefties are good. He's holding them to a .203 average this season and a .238 average in his career.
It's unclear how the Diamondbacks plan to use Kennedy, but like Byung-Hyun Kim, whom Arizona claimed on Friday, he could be an option as either a starter or reliever.
Like Kim, he's a bit costly. The remaining portion of his $2.8 million salary will cost Arizona about $950,000.
