ChopTalk: Boyer healthy, ready to go

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sat Jan 12, 2008 6:51 am

My shoulder is as healthy as it's ever been. It might be even better than it's ever been.

The surgery I had (in 2006) didn't mess with the dynamics of my shoulder at all. They didn't put an anchor in there or anything, just cleaned it up. I'm doing most of my regular shoulder exercises this offseason in order to keep it strong, but I'm putting a lot of stress on my legs, bulking them up and getting them as strong as they can possibly be. (Braves strength and conditioning coach) Frank Fultz gave me some good workouts, and that's what I'm doing.

In pitching, the power comes from your legs. You watch certain guys pitch, like Josh Beckett and you see that he "falls" into his legs so well. He's got big, strong legs, and he uses the power from his legs and backside to his advantage. I want to really incorporate my legs into my delivery. I've been watching film this offseason, and it's all going to help me get where I need to be, physically, for next year.

The oblique injury I had last year was weird. I'd never had an oblique issue all my life. I remember it was the last game of Spring Training, the last pitch of the inning, and I felt a little "pop" in my oblique. I thought, "What was that?"
