While the games against New York will be fun, I still don't expect Atlanta to make the playoffs, so at this point I could careless. I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm sick of getting my hopes up, so I'm not going to expect anything out of this team going into the season.

Santana deal brings parity to NL East

As long as they satisfy Santana's contractual demands, the Mets immediately cloud the NL East picture. If they weren't considered contenders with the Braves and Phillies before, they certainly now find themselves with that label.

"This certainly evens the balance within the division," said Glavine, who signed a free agent contract with Atlanta in November. I don't think this makes [the Mets] the class of the division. I think it puts them in a position where their rotation is much better and that was their biggest need.

"Within the division, I think you have three teams that can now not only win the division, but also the World Series. I think all three teams did a nice job of filling their biggest needs."

Mets have to show something on the field first. You guys were pretty heavy favorites last year if I remember correctly.

No we didn't. We really only lost Gomez, who is better in CF and Guerra, who is far from the majors.

I'm terrified. I think we finish 3rd. Can't believe the Mets pulled if off for pretty much nothing.

Pitching will win you playoff games....Its the other 8 guys that get you there. Santana did not make the Twins a dominate team and i don't see him doing so for the Mets. Somebody has still got to pitch the 4 days in between. Nevertheless, this will improve the team.

Fortunately for the Mets, the NL sucks.
