Trade for Erik Bedard?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Jun 9, 2008 11:48 pm

The News Tribune - The Mariners could benefit most from dealing pitcher Erik Bedard this summer, according to The News Tribune.

General Manager Bill Bavasi rolled the dice on Bedard this winter, but the deal hasn't paid dividends in Seattle so far in 2008.

He hasn't been a bust, but he hasn't dominated either.

The lefty is 4-4 this season with a 4.26 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 61.1 innings of work.

Could The Mariners Look To Deal Bedard?

1 year/$7M (2008) is his current salary and he's going to be due another contract after seasons end.

Looking past Tom Glavine, Mike Hampton and focus on rebuilding our starting rotation. A duo of Tim Hudson and Erik Bedard could very well be a good duo. How do you think his transition to the National League would be?

Trading for Bedard makes no sense, we could give away somebody then have him walk at seasons end. Try the guy in f/a maybe esp if his value isnt high.

even though he's not having a great season, it would take just as much to get bedard as it took to get tex, and we're not goin to do that....we can get a good pitcher for half the price....

I don't think that the Braves would even consider doing this.

I would love to get Bedard, but the cost would be too high. We could benefit by trying to get some pitchers who have been struggling but are still solid, like Arroyo for example.

i'd love to get zack greinke from KC, it wouldnt take as much to get him compared to bedard but he would still cost us because he's a good young proven pitcher in the AL....

morton
b jones
gotay
boyer/stockman

for

greinke

i'd do that, not sure if that is too much or little but....

It would cost us a great deal to acquire Erik right now considering Seattle gave up some very good talent for him.

On the other hand, it's time to regroup this starting rotation, and stay away from the older pitchers like we Glavine/Hampton. I don't see a legit farm pitcher making it right now, so we need to pursue someone via free agency or by trade.
