Braves

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Oct 15, 2010 1:41 am

Braves officials can focus attention on improving a punchless outfield that ranked among the National League’s worst in 2010.

The starting rotation and bullpen are solid and the infield, including shortstop Alex Gonzalez and rookie first baseman Freddie Freeman, seems set. The outfield? It needs help.

“We’re going to have to be creative,” said Wren, who probably doesn’t have funds to get into the expected bidding wars for free-agent outfielders Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth. “We’re going to have to take a look at every possibility.”

Wren said the Braves are operating under the assumption that third baseman Chipper Jones — owed $28 million over the next two seasons — will make it back from knee surgery and join an infield with Gonzalez, Freeman and second baseman Martin Prado.

“I think that’s our likely, hopeful Opening Day lineup,” Wren said. “Once you get in discussions and once you start taking other things into account, you start looking at other aspects of your club. But I think outfield is going to be a focus.” http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blo ... raves_blog

The hitting needs to get way better in general. Prado, Freeman, McCann, and Heyward are pretty much the only guys with a for sure spot in the lineup.

As we all know , Braves need a RH Power bat in the outfield. I say trade for Kemp, now possibly that may cost Jair, however Braves do have pitching prospects who could also get it done. IF Jair (who's agent is Boras and will cost a lot in 2-3 yrs) is traded, Braves should sign a vet arm for rotation . Bring back Javier Vazquez or Jon Garland or Freddy Garcia or Kevin Millwood or Carl Pavano or Jake Westbrook . Add a speedy outfielder to play LF . Maybe if Yanks get Crawford, Granderson would be available .Trade 2 pitching prospects for him (Delgado and Beachy or Marek). Sign cheap vet 1b/OF like Nady. Sign vet bullpen arm like Scot Shields.

2b Prado
LF Granderson
RF Heyward
CF Kemp
C Mac
3b Chipper
SS Gonz
1b Freeman

Infante, Conrad, Hinske, Nady, Ross

Hudson
Lowe
Hanson
vet SP mentioned above
Minor

Kimbrel
Venters
Moylan
Dunn
Shields
O'Flaherty

World Series team right there. Or I'm going overboard .

I like the idea of adding Matt Kemp, but I have a feeling he wouldn't like the idea, and mainly because I think his preference would be to stay in Cali. I hope we make a play but I doubt we make that big of a splash.
