The Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants are pleased to announce that slugger Beau Torbert has signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves organization. Torbert, 27, agreed to a Class AA/Class AAA contract with the Braves on Wednesday.

“We are very excited for Beau,” said Pheasants manager Steve Shirley. “He has been a key member of our club for the last three years and is very deserving of this opportunity. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Torbert is coming off a remarkable season with the Pheasants in which he was named Baseball America’s 2010 Independent Player of the Year, American Association Player of the Year and Pointstreak’s Star of Stars award which is given out for overall statistical excellence.

Torbert, who spent the past three seasons in Sioux Falls, posted one of the best offensive outputs in the history of the league in 2010. He set a team and league record with a .394 batting average. Torbert finished second in the league with 24 home runs and his 100 RBI was tops in the league and set a new team record.

The Phenix City, AL native amassed 155 hits this season, breaking the previous league record (148) and team record (136) for hits in a season. From June 20 to July 10, Torbert hit safely in 18 consecutive games. He collected 51 multi-hit games during the year, including seven four-hit games. He notched at least one hit in 80 of 95 games played, and only once did he fail to garner a hit in two consecutive games.
