Braves Re-Sign Jack Wilson

Post#1 » by bstrassburg » Fri Jan 13, 2012 8:43 pm

This barely seems worthy of starting a thread over, but it's been that uneventful of an off-season that this qualifies as news.

Jack Wilson has been re-signed by the Braves on a one-year, $1 million contract to serve as utility infielder and back-up to Tyler Pastornicky.

Seemed to have played pretty well the little time he was here and I would gladly take him over the pile of crap that is still available. If Pastornicky isn't ready, they weren't going to sign his replacement this off-season anyway and would probably look to trade mid-season.

Welcome back, Jack ! I like it. Jack has always been a solid, gritty defender.

I have no problem with this considering it's one year, $1 million.

Basically means we are going to have to sit through people tearing down another young player who too much will probably be asked of too quick. Well atleast the true fans will not be running around blaming our young players for our failures this year. It is easy to see that we are not making any upgrades. Hell, why didn't we trade Jair to Seattle for Pineda? We are not even trying.

Michael Pineda is going to have a fantastic year now that he has some offense behind him. Why would we pursue him? We need more offense, not pitching. Frank Wren is just not willing to give up what it takes to acquire a big time bat, but now everyone knows our business, and it's probably hurt JJ & Prado's value.

Because, the alleged reason's that we want to get rid of him is because of his agent. I don't know who Pineda's agent is but if it is not Boras why not? You have to get something out of him if u think he will just walk. Next, because of him being so inconsistent and injured. I think like I stated around the trade deadline with going after Jimeniz that we overrated our pitching. We don't have a ace and I am not sure all of the young guns are big league ready. Also, who says Jair has to be in the deal for the big bat?

Mariners wanted an impact bat of Pineda. Why would they downgrade their pitching staff from 5 years of Pineda to 2 years of Jurrjens? That makes no sense at all, unless you're a win now team, which the Mariners are not.

Jack Wilson has decided to retire.

Jack Wilson has retired from baseball.
"My wife Julie and our kids and I made that decision together, that this season was going to be my last," Wilson told Trib Total Media on Tuesday. "We’re retiring officially." The 34-year-old infielder was a .265/.306/.366 career hitter over parts of 12 major league seasons. He played for the Pirates, Mariners and Braves. Sep 25 - 5:18 PM
