Jordan Walden was an all-star rookie closer for the Angels in 2011. He had a rough start to 2012 and was put on the DL for elbow tendinitis and was replaced at closer but had a really good season after the all star break last year. Should be a pretty good arm out of the pen last year.

This was mostly a cost cutting move as Walden is still earning near the minimun and Hanson is projected around $4 million in arbitration this year. This potentially frees up some more cash for LF, but could also go towards extending Prado and maybe Heyward.

Overall, I get why the Braves are doing this and there is reason to be concerned about Tommy's elbow and should as well as his decrease in velocity, but I'm sad that he's going, was one of my favorite players on the team. I hope he stays healthy and has a good career with the Angels.

My friends that are Atlanta fans love this trade.

My thoughts: HAnson was unable to pitch long innings, but he also seemed to not receive much run support, and due to the lack of innings, I became tired of him. I'm happy to see him gone.

Good luck to Tommy, but I agree that this move had to be made, his pitching motion was putting stress on his arm and was making it difficult on our catchers in base stealing situations, we now have some money freed up to resign Prado and Heyward in the forseeable future (like bstrassburg said) we have some funds for a Left Fielder (Victorino would be a great addition) and also Hanson is a Boras client and we would've had to throw some cash his way in order to resign him. Nice move by Wren trading him right now for a valuable bullpen player and not having to worry about resigning him. We have this luxury to trade him because of our incredible farm system with Teheran, Delgado, Gilmartin all coming out pretty soon and with Beachy and Minor serving as young arms already in the rotation. Wren has made all the right moves so far
