Tex would be a great add for a lot of reasons. He can replace the power lost from Andruw leaving this winter and fill the void at first base. However, he won't be here past 2008 and at this point, I think the package is too much currently constructed of Salty and Elvis for Tex.

As a Rangers fan, I like the idea of Salty and one of the two SS prospects...The Rangers will keep two of the three between Wilson, Benoit and Gagne, but one of them could be had in this deal if the Braves say it's the deal breaker...One thing is for sure, I want nothing to do with Kyle Davies. The Rangers need a left-handed prospect to replace what they lost in the Danks/McCarthy deal.

Maybe something along the lines of Teixeira + Brave's choice of the three relievers for Salty, Andrus/Lillibridge and Harrison/Reyes.

salty, lillibridge, harrison for tex, benoit (i'd much rather have wilson, but you will never give him up, and i don't blame ya he's awesome)....

DEAL, get JS on the phone now....

what i'm thinkin is ATL and TEX have an agreed deal to do at any time but TEX is waiting for other offers to come in b4 Tuesday's deadline, so i'm guessing we'll see a trade sunday or monday....

That's highly likely...It's probably all but agreed on, and Texas is probably using the agreed upon package to try and leverage better deals from the other teams involved. I really think ATL is the only real option right now, because I don't see the Angels having a legit chance unless they are willing to part with something like Kotchman, Aybar and one of Santana/Saunders/Adenhart, while the Dodgers and RedSox already have more than suitable players at Mark's position, and can afford to wait it out with their younger guys rather than overspend for the 'quick-fix'.

Teixeira-to-Braves deal already done?

The Braves appeared the clear frontrunner for Mark Teixeira, ahead of the Angels, Dodgers and, yes, the Red Sox, who also made a significant bid. And Atlanta is not messing around. Their proposed trade of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop Elvis Andrus and pitcher Matt Harrison, one AL executive said, represents "their two best position prospects, and best pitching prospect." An executive from another team that had been trying to get Teixeira said his organization had become convinced Teixeira-to-the-Braves was done. In fact, this executive said it was his team's belief that the commissioner's office already had the trade in hand and was deciding whether to approve the deal because the Rangers were going to pay a substantial piece of Teixeira's remaining contract this year.

That is way too much to give up for him. We can't give up a top pitching prospect when we are struggling with pitching already.

Trade Has All the Earmarks of ANOTHER Disaster

Post#30 » by Mission Man » Mon Jul 30, 2007 12:52 pm

It all started with the dumb LaRoche for Gonzo deal. Trading your everyday rising first baseman for a reliever less than a close was STUPID.

Now we are shipping out our best prospects for a rent-a-player.

The deal becomes borderline IF we sign Tex to an extension. If we lose him in a season & a half - it will be a total disaster. JS needs to get his head screwed on straight.

Minus the injury, I loved the ADD for Gonzo trade.

I liked the trade, but it's too bad that Gonzo ended up getting hurt, and now will be without him for awhile.

What is Adam LaRoche doing that makes you so high on him? Scott Thorman's numbers would be just as good if he add the at bats Adam has.

I believe we have the best offer on the table but JS could very well get sick of waiting around for Texas to make a decision.

Return to Atlanta Braves
