Tonights Game: September 12th
Shea Stadium | 7:10 PM ET
John Smoltz, RHP (13-7, 3.02)
Braves (74-71) @
John Maine, RHP (14-9, 3.80)
Mets (82-62)
Scouting Report:
Braves: Smolt'z no-hit bid against the Nationals on Friday night was ruined with Ronnie Belliard's eighth-inning leadoff single. While not allowing more than three earned runs in any of his past seven starts, the 40-year-old veteran has proven he's overcome the shoulder problems that plagued him earlier. He is 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA in five starts against the Mets this year. His lone loss against them came on Sept. 2, when he surrendered three earned runs in seven innings.
Mets: Maine turned in a brilliant performance against Atlanta on Aug. 31, but he wasn't able to follow up Wednesday against the slumping Reds. The right-hander turned in his second-shortest outing of the season, going 4 1/3 innings and being reached for six runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts. That was in stark contrast to his previous start, when he held the Braves to one run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight. His shortest outing of the season was 2 2/3 innings on Aug. 4 against the Cubs at Chicago.

This is great that our ace, John Smoltz is on the mound in a series that is tied up at 1-1. This series was made for us to win so lets see if the Braves can take advantage of it.
Although Maine is pretty tough, I think that if our offense is rolling tonight and we can get him out quick, then I think we will win this game and the series.

Wow...I didn't think the Braves were that far back.
Yea they are really far back aren't they. Man that's embarrasing to look at. They need to be second in the division and only be back like 2.0 games or something. 8.5 games is just too much to come back from, escpecially this late in the season.

Yes they do, they can't generate any offense. It doesn't matter what opposing pitcher is on the mound. When you have got your ace in John Smoltz on the mound you know the offense is not going to put up alot of numbers, so all you have to do is scoot across about 4 runs and you will most likely get the win. The Braves are just playing like a sub par team and they are looking forward to next season.
