Milwaukee Brewers @ Atlnata Braves: 9/22 Game Thread

Tonights Game: September 22nd

Turner Field | 3:55 PM ET

Yovani Gallardo, RHP (9-4, 3.66)
Brewers (79-74) @

John Smoltz, RHP (14-7, 2.97)
Braves (80-74)

Scouting Report:

Brewers: Gallardo has picked up steam recently, winning four straight, five of his last six and allowing no earned runs in four of those starts. On Monday, he ran his scoreless-innings streak to 21, as he held Houston to no runs for the second time in 12 days, a total of 15 straight scoreless innings against the Astros. He says he has been more aggressive since his season low-point -- when he gave up 11 runs to Colorado on Aug. 8 -- and he looks nothing like the uncertain pitcher from earlier in the year. He appears ready to fulfill the promise he has shown in a meteoric rise through the Minors since being picked in the second round of the 2004 Draft.

Braves: Smoltz's second straight six-inning outing -- matching his shortest since Aug. 8 -- didn't occur because he was ineffective. The Braves took a 10-1 lead after five innings against the Marlins on Monday and Smoltz's services weren't necessary after he completed six innings. His string of allowing three or fewer runs was extended to nine starts and he has won back-to-back decisions for the second time since May. In each of his 14 wins this season, Smoltz has allowed two or fewer earned runs. His shortest outing of the season came against the Brewers on May 29, when Smoltz was forced to leave after 3 2/3 innings with an injury. He is 3-0 in his career against Milwaukee.

We better take advantage of having John Smoltz on the mound tonight. Hopefully we can get some run support and help our pitchers out.

Also if we do get a win it will help the Cubs out tremendously if they win today too.

Sorry, this is a little late.

Tonights Game: September 23rd

Turner Field | 1:05 PM ET

Chris Capuano, LHP (5-12, 5.21)
Brewers (79-75) @

Jo-Jo Reyes, LHP (1-2, 6.98)
Braves (81-74)

Scouting Report:

Brewers: Ace right-hander Ben Sheets is out with a balky left hamstring, so the team instead with turn to Capuano with hope the left-hander can snap the worst losing streak in club history. The Brewers have lost the last 20 games in which Capuano has pitched and he is 0-12 in that span with a 6.33 ERA. But manager Ned Yost chose Capuano over right-hander Claudio Vargas for this start because the Braves are 29-32 against lefties, and because Capuano has a 3.60 career ERA against them. It could be a spot start, because the team is hoping Sheets will return to the rotation Sept. 28 against the Padres.

Braves: Reyes earned his first Major League victory on Tuesday when he limited the Marlins to one earned run and three hits in five innings. In his past two starts, the 22-year-old left-hander has completed 11 innings and allowed three earned runs. Still in need of seasoning, the young hurler occasionally battles problems with his control. He's issued 26 walks and registered just 22 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings.
