The Dodgers are a gold mine. It seems like so many people are in line to purchase the team but the $1 billion number is what's holding things up. If the team sells for $1 billion, I think the price will increase, but not over the short-term.

Mark Cuban plans to bid on Los Angeles Dodgers

Mark Cuban, the owner of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, said Thursday that he plans to participate in the bidding process for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The process could begin next week, when the investment bank handling the sale of the Dodgers is expected to provide prospective buyers with confidential financial data in a bid book.

He "will see a book," Cuban wrote in an email.

Cuban told the Los Angeles Times last month that he had inquired about buying the Dodgers but "wasn't interested" at an asking price of at least $1 billion.

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt subsequently agreed with Major League Baseball on a deal in which he would sell the team and its stadium but keep the surrounding parking lots, subject to a lease that would guarantee the new owner could use the lots on game days.

As part of his due diligence, Cuban said, he would explore whether the exclusion of the parking lots might reduce the purchase price of the team.

He "will take a look and determine if one impacts the other," Cuban wrote.

Cuban previously pursued the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers. He said last month he would not be interested in the Atlanta Braves if that franchise were put up for sale.

"I like franchises that need a lot of help," he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "

So Cuban is an idiot after all. You want to buy the Dodgers, but not the Braves ? :banghead:

I've said this for years now about Cuban (negative to many), but he cares about filling seats, and keeping things consistent. As long as things are consistent during the regular season, the seats are going to be filled, and his team(s) is going to rank among the top 5 in attendance. It's no different with the Dodgers because they'll go back to ranking among the top 5 in attendance, but he won't be able to do that with the Braves.

It's not mentioning us but Yoenis Cespedes is set to hit the open market soon.

A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that Yoenis Cespedes could be declared a free agent during the ''latter half of winter meetings or after."
It's unlikely this will impact the number of teams interested in Cespedes, as ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported Friday it could take ''north of $50 million'' to sign him this offseason. The delay in posting is due to fact that he needs to establish temporary residency in the Dominican Republic before being granted free agency. The Yankees, Marlins, and Cubs, have expressed interest in Cespedes, in addition to a host of low-revenue clubs.

Reyes just accepted a 6 year deal with the marlins Buster Olney reports, sources say that the Marlins are also the team most likely to sign Albert Pujols if he decides not to re sign with the Cardinals. Great just what we need: another Super Team in Miami. smh

Congrats to Fish fans. Your team is getting better, and your FO is spending money to put butts in the seats. Good for Miami. Just made things harder on the rest of us.

Great off-season for Miami so far. I won't be shocked if they compete with us for second place in the division depending on what else they accomplish this off-season.

The only thing that gets Albert Pujols to leave STL is money and I doubt any team is willing to offer him the amount it'd take.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers, Nationals and Marlins are the "most aggressive" on free agent left-hander Mark Buehrle. http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/mlbb ... _post=true

Imagine if Miami ends up signing C.J. Wilson and Mark Buehrle. We should be concerned even if they sign one of them. I think Mark Buehrle opposes the biggest threat.

According to ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes, the agent for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is telling interested teams that his client wants a $60 million contract.
That's double what Aroldis Chapman received from the Reds. Cespedes is a workout wonder and has drawn the attention of all of baseball's large-market teams, but he carries many unknowns. It would be surprising to see the Cuban defector actually land a $60 million deal this winter. So far, the Yankees, Tigers and Marlins have shown the most interest.

Miami is apparently leading or was before they invested a great deal of money.

I wonder who he'll end up signing with. Any idea?

Latest on Mark Buehrle:

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers, Marlins and Nationals have all offered Mark Buehrle a three-year deal in the $36-39 million range.
Rosenthal notes that the Twins are also in on the left-hander, but their offers fell short of that range. Previous reports have indicated that Buehrle is demanding a no-trade clause and that a couple teams were considering giving it to him. It seems likely that the veteran southpaw will sign with a new team sometime this week.

Most likely the Cubs, Blue Jays, or Mariners.

Miami has offered Pujols a 10-year contract.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Marlins have offered Albert Pujols a 10-year contract.
The average annual salary of the proposal is unknown. Miami executives met with agent Dan Lozano twice on Monday night at baseball's Winter Meetings and upped the offer from nine to 10 years in their final chat of the evening. The Cardinals have likely been asked to make some sort of counter-offer on Tuesday. We may have a legitimate bidding war for baseball's top free agent.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Marlins' 10-year offer to Albert Pujols is worth over $200 million.
If there was any doubt before about Miami's level of interest, it can be put to rest now. The Cardinals offered Pujols a nine-year deal in the range of $200 million last winter, but that was before the 2011 season was played out. They'll undoubtedly have reservations about jumping to 10 years. It sounds as though some sort of resolution could be coming within the next day or so.

How does a team, that has never had a payroll over $60 mill, afford Bell, Reyes and Pujols(if they get him) ? ? If Pujols signs, the Marlins would have spent more $ on those 3, than they have on their entire roster the past 9 yrs.
