Yeah, he'd be a nice pick.

HS RHP Carter Stewart goes 8th overall to the Braves

Can't hate this pick one bit. 6'6" 200lb, already has a ++ Curveball, fastball touches 95-98

And they think his fastball will get even better. Yeah, it's impossible not to like this pick - even with Atlanta having a surplus of pitchers - the rich get richer. Once he learns a changeup... my gosh. His HS stats were absurdly awesome.

I'm really surprised that P Brady Singer and P Matt Liberatore are available still, both thought to go in top 5.

Liberatore goes 16th to the Rays and Singer 18th to the Royals

Braves get Alec Bohm's teammate, Greyson Jenista, in the second round. Wichita State must have had an intimidating lineup. From Rotoworld.com: "has plus power from the left side, and he's also an above-average runner with a strong throwing arm. The Braves took him as a first baseman, but he could spend time in the outfield with Atlanta." Real big guy at 6'4 240 - even bigger than Bohm. 21 years old. Let's hope he can play OF, because Mr Freeman's gonna be at 1st for a while. :) I'm guessing the Braves will be working with him on changing his swing, since he didn't hit a lot of homers at Wichita State.

From what I read, it might be because they had salary demands that some of the teams above them weren't willing to pay.

Hmmm... makes sense. Many thought Liberatore was the best LHP and top 5 pitcher in the draft. He draws comparisons to Cole Hamels.

And Singer, while his fastball sits in low 90s, is said to have pinpoint control in the strike zone.

So, rounds 4 through 6... all 3 picks look like value picks. The 112th pick - pitcher Tristan Beck - was rated 35th by MLB.com. The 142nd pick - pitcher Trey Riley - was rated 76th. And the 172nd pick - CFer Andrew Moritz - was rated 142nd. Braves got more pitching, got some hitters, but nothing so far as far as infielders - other than a 1st baseman/OFer.

I like the Stewart pick. He's apparently the best arm coming out of highschool this year. Our pitching is loaded so it was nice to see us get a higher upside guy since we can afford to wait for his development.

The highest ceiling HSer. Has a tremendous fastball and curveball. If he develops a changeup and stays healthy... another phenom for the Braves rotation.

The player I might be pulling for the most is 15th rounder Greg Cullen. https://sports.yahoo.com/braves-draft-pick-sees-childhood-dream-come-true-wishing-play-team-6-years-old-221701943.html

Yes with exclamation point?? We should not be happy to lose a pitching prospect like Carter Stewart.
