Giving Will Smith that money, bit AA in the rear. It should have went to extensions for Melancon, Greene(I think he comes around, just taking longer with no ST) and O'Day. IIRC Melancon is leading all of baseball with 26 saves. Matzek, Martin and Minter are not very good this year.

Ozzie Albies was removed from Wednesday's game with tightness in his neck.

Albies went 1-for-3 with a run scored before he left the game. The Braves are calling this a precaution, and for now the second baseman should be considered day-to-day. That being said, with the All-Star break coming soon, Atlanta will continue to take precautions until Albies feels at his best.

All those runs and only two homeruns is promising. Being able to score without having to rely on the homeruns to generate offense is a great sign.

Big three game series coming up in Miami that starts tomorrow before the all-star break.

Ronald Acuna is out for the season with a completely torn ACL.

Wow, what a let-down. Hopefully Acuna's ready early next season.

Well, we're now sellers, and we might as well play Pache and Waters the rest of the season and see what we have.

The Braves took P Ryan Cusick with the 24th pick last night, some wonder why with Ty Madden still available at the time.

I wanted SS Trey Sweeney, who the stupid Yankees took at 20.

Cusick has been timed at 101.7 MPH. :o Apparently has a good curve to go with the impressive fastball. And he's a very big guy - from the ACC. Question is - will he have to switch to relieve?. And usually when that's a question, the guy does have to make the switch. So, I think it's reasonable to think he's our eventual closer.

Another concern is that he has control issues like Newcomb. :noway:

Bleacher Report gave the Braves a C on their pick, mentioning that we should have took Madden, who doesn't have control issues.

Yeah, I'm always going to be more comfortable going with a pitcher with real good command over a pitcher with better heat but ordinary command. I don't know much about the prospects, but Madden seemed like a player I would have liked a lot at that spot.

From Madden's scouting report,

If you are looking for a pitcher with a good track record in college and some upside, Ty Madden could be your guy. He’s posted a 2.59 ERA in three seasons at Texas, with a 2.45 ERA this past season while throwing 113.2 innings and striking out 137 batters with 44 walks. He split time between the bullpen and rotation as a freshman, but he’s made 22 starts between his sophomore and junior seasons.

Armed with a fastball that’s picked up several ticks of velocity this year and now sits 93-96 and touches 99 MPH, the right-handed starter also has an above-average slider in the low-to-mid 80’s that may be his best pitch. He will occasionally throw a change up and a curveball, though both are slightly below-average pitches.

Madden has good control and command. There are some concerns that he winds up a reliever in the long run because he has essentially become a 2-pitch guy and not every team thinks that his fastball will play well despite the velocity. A team that believes he can work with his change up and curveball, and perhaps get something from his fastball will have higher grades on him that a team who thinks his fastball won’t play nearly as well. He’s probably a 1st round pick on all of the boards, but the range where he falls seems to vary quite a bit depending on how a team views things.

Braves acquired OF Joc Pederson from the Braves in exchange for 1B Bryce Ball.

Pederson was signed to a one-year deal with the Cubs with an option for 2022 in the offseason, and he's homered 11 times in 73 games while hitting .230/.300/.418 over 256 at-bats. He's going to be the replacement for Ronald Acuña Jr. -- at least against right-handed pitching -- with Acuña out for the remainder of the 2021 season with a torn ACL. The power is nice, but Pederson is going to hurt in the average category and doesn't help with steals, so there's a lot of bitter with the better.

Rays come back and win 7-4. The Braves had a 4-3 lead in the 7th, before Snit and the bullpen blew it.
