UGGLA TRADE?!?!?!?

Post#1 » by bstrassburg » Tue Nov 16, 2010 10:13 pm

Ken Rosenthal at FOX Sports just tweeted about a potential deal between the Braves and Marlins, where the Braves would be acquiring Dan Uggla for All-Star Omar Infante and Mike Dunn.

I'm very happy about acquiring Dan Uggla, but trading Mike Dunn will probably eventually come back to haunt us, so we'll see how his career turns out.

This is a huge get for Atlanta. Will miss Omar, but Dunn was never high on my list. Uggla is going to make this lineup much more fearsome from the scoring perspective. Very good move Mr. Wren!

While there is some potential with Dunn, he was still our 3rd left-handed relief pitcher, not a huge loss unless O'Flaherty gets mono again.

Also Wren has said that Prado is going to play LF and Uggla will play 2B. And Fredi has said that Uggla will bat either 4 or 5 (I'm guessing it'll be the switcheroo with B-Mac depending on the pitcher).

Kudos to Frank on a tremendous deal for the Braves.

Now we need to go get Justin Upton.

True so we're looking at ,

LF Prado
RF Heyward
3b Chipper
2b Uggla
C Mac
CF McLouth
1b Freeman
SS Gonz

I'd like to see if he could do something with McLouth in a trade, and get a speedy CF for the top of the order . Like Podsednik, Rajai Davis, or Jacoby Ellsbury .

All things I've heard is Nate is untradeable, which is actually fine with me. I think he could be a very solid utility OF this season. I completely agree that we need to look into Ellsbury or Rajai Davis and get some speed in this line-up. Don't think Scotty Po can play CF much anymore.

I like Justin Upton a lot and think he has potential to be a star. But we would have to give up a whole lot for him. We stole Uggla. I would be a bit fearful of the FO having to give up too much to get Upton. Would rather add pitching or a solid bat off the bench where we dont have to give an arm and a leg.

Agreed. The buzz is that the D-Bags want 2 Major League Ready Pitchers and a Replacement OF for him. I don't think the Braves match up well. Justin Upton would immediately make this team the top in the NL but I don't think a deal can be worked out.

Also, it sounds like Rajai Davis is close to being traded to the Blue Jays, so we can cross him off our wish list.

Was just going to post that,

Blue Jays On Verge Of Acquiring Rajai Davis
By Tim Dierkes [November 17 at 3:33pm CST]

The Blue Jays are on the verge of acquiring outfielder Rajai Davis from the Athletics, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Minor league reliever Trystan Magnuson is one of the players heading to Oakland in the deal, MLBTR has learned.

Davis, a 30-year-old speedster, became more expendable for Oakland after they acquired David DeJesus from the Royals. Davis slipped to .284/.320/.377 this year in 561 plate appearances for the A's, playing all three outfield positions but mainly center. It's not clear how the Jays would employ Davis, but capable center fielders are a rare commodity.

Magnuson, a 25-year-old righty, posted a 2.58 ERA, 7.7 K/9, and 1.2 BB/9 with only one home run allowed in 73 1/3 Double-A innings this year. Heading into the season Baseball America had him 22nd among Jays prospects.

There isn't much I wouldn't give up for Upton.

Upton for Prado and Teheran, then go sign Adam Dunn.

Upton
Heyward
Chipper
Dunn
McCann
Uggla
Gonzalez
Freeman

World Series. :)

Not going to happen, Teheran is untouchable and Prado is fine with moving to LF. Prado plays in LF during winter ball.

Yeah but Dunn and Upton is better than Prado in left and hoping Tehehran develops into an ace in two years or so. I'd rather win the World Series next year. We'd be absolutely crazy not to trade that package if the dbacks would accept it.

But you're right, it's not going to happen - even though it should.

Some Braves fans I know are not very happy about this trade. I think it's fantastic and adds the bat we needed, but some people I know are having a difficult time getting over Omar Infante getting traded.
