Edward Salcedo - Chipper's eventual replacement at 3b

Starting off very strong this year in single A Rome. Today he goes 3-4 with a double, triple, and 2 RBIs to bring his average up to .346 so far. He also has 3 stolen bases so far.

I need to pay more attention to the young talent we have. I only have so much time in one day to research and focus on sports, but I intend on doing a better job stay knowledgeable.

Who is hot, Who is not

Hot
Edward Salcedo 3B, Rome -9-25, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB - Many doubted Salcedo's future after his poor showing with Rome in 2010, but the 19 year old has gotten off to a great start this season, putting up a .360/.407/.640/1.047 slash line in the last week. And after striking out 7 times in his first 4 games he struck out only 5 times in his last 6.

Mike Minor LHP, Gwinnett - 6 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 9 K - After pitching poorly in an April 6th spot start for Atlanta, Minor dominated in his first start for Gwinnett. The 23 year old had a 1.50 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 13.5 K/9 rate for that game, though he did receive a no decision.

Carlos Perez LHP, Rome - 1-1, 11 IP, 2 ER, 10 H, 2 BB, 14 K - Perez's 2010 was cut short by a freak shoulder blade injury to his non-throwing right shoulder, but the 19 year old is making up for lost time this year, with a 1.63 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and a 11.5 K/9 rate this week.

Adam Milligan RF, Lynchburg - 7-18, 4 2B, HR, RBI - The 23 year old Milligan played in just 21 games last season, and was injured for most of them, so he was almost as productive in the last week as he was in 2010, putting up a .389/.389/.778/1.076 slash line on the week. The only knock on his week is his complete lack of walks, but when your batting average is approaching .400, you don't need to walk.

Not
Andrelton Simmons SS, Lynchburg - 2-19, 2B, BB, K - The 21 year old Simmons is an excellent defender, but he needs to prove he has a bat to go with his glove. So this week was a bit of a step backwards, as he hit just .105 and put up a lowly .308 OPS.

Joe Leonard 3b, Lynchburg - 4-21, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 3 K - Struggles were contageous around the Lynchburg infield, as Leonard hit .190 with a .482 OPS. The 22 year old did manage to make his hits count, driving in 5 runs on the week.

LHP Mike Minor - 12.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 13 K - Minor has been flat out dominant since returning to AAA after his rocky outing in Atlanta.

LHP Brett Oberholtzer - 12 IP, 12 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 13 K - Another Braves lefthander that has been very impressive this season. For the season he has a 1.90 ERA with 22 K in 23.2 innings.

Not

3b Edward Salcedo - 4-25, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 CS - Salcedo had one of the hottest starts to the year hitting for average and power but he fell back down to earth this week. His defense wasn't immune either tossing in a two error game.

C Christian Bethancourt- 4-19, 4 K, CS - Bethancourt got off to a nice start but has since fallen by the wayside. He has just two RBI in his last ten games and hasn't walked at all this season. His average currently sits at .190 with a .514 OPS - nearly 100 points lower than last season.

Andrelton Simmons SS, Lynchburg - 10-21, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 SB - Simmons' goal for this season is to prove that he can hit enough to stay a position player, and with a .311 average and .741 OPS through 20 games he's certainly taking care of that. He was even better this week, hitting .476 with a 1.095 OPS.

Julio Teheran RHP, Gwinnett - 2-0, 14 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 13 H, 2 BB, 14 K - Teheran is one of the yougest players in AAA and one of the best prospects in the entire game. While putting up a 1.93 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in winning both of his starts this week he certainly pitched well beyond his years.

Cory Harrilchak OF, Mississippi -9-26, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB - After a slow start, Harrilchak turned things around this week, with a .346 average and a 1.029 OPS. He benefited from moving down in the order and has continued to excel defensively both in centerfield and in rightfield.

Not

Stephen Marek RHP, Gwinnett -0-1, 3 G, 2.1 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K - Marek had been rolling along this season, prompting many to believe he should be in Atlanta's bullpen, but after another dominant appearance in his first game this week, he took a loss and a blown save in his other 2 appearances. His control seemed to fail him, as he put up a 15.45 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP.

Todd Cunningham, Adam Milligan, LV Ware OF, Lynchburg - 6-57, 3 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 13 K - The Lynchburg outfield worked as a team this week, but unfortunately not in a positive way. The trio hit just .105 with an anemic .308 OPS.

Hot

Matt Lipka, SS, Rome Braves - 13-30, 6 2B, 7 RBI, BB, 2K, SB - Lipka started the season about as bad as you imagine. He went 150 ABs before he got his first extra base hit, but once he got that hit he piled them on with six in four games. He also increased his season RBI total from four to twelve in the last week. Lipka is currently sitting on an eight game hitting streak and has helped lead the Rome team to wins in six of their last seven games.

David Rohm, OF, Rome Braves - 10-25, 4 2B, 2 3B, HR, 11 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K - As hot as Lipka was over the past week Rohm may have been hotter. He hit a clean .400 on the week and seven of his ten hits went for extra bases and he nearly doubled his season RBI total. If he and Lipka can just learn to take some walks to go along with their newfound power they could be really dynamic.

Brett Oberholtzer, LHP Mississippi Braves -7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 10 K - The Mississippi pitching staff has been amazing this season and Oberholtzer has been the worst one of the group! Over his last two starts he has allowed just runs and nine hits in fourteen innings while walking one and striking out sixteen. He is becoming a very impressive part of our system.

Wilkin Ramirez, OF -Gwinnett Braves - 8-20, 4 2B, HR, BB, 5 K, SB - Ramirez only played in five games this week but he hit safely in four of them with an extra base hit in every game he reached base. For the year he has 15 extra base hits with 29 total hits giving him a .265 ISO. If someone can teach the kid to take a walk he might still be able to salvage something.

Not

Cory Rasmus, RHP - Lynchburg Hillcats - 11.1 IP, 12H, 8 R, 4 BB, 14 K - Rasmus just can't avoid the big inning. On Sunday he was cruising until the sixth when he got rocked for three runs before leaving with men on the corners and one out. On Tuesday he gave up four in the second inning but allowed just two batters to reach base the rest of the game. He obviously brought his strike out pitch this season with 40K in 26.2 innings but he needs to find a way to work out of trouble when trouble finds him.

Edward Salcedo, SS/3b Rome Braves - 5-24, HR, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 10 K, SB - This wasn't the best seven days for Salcedo who saw his OPS dip below .800 for the first time this season and drop all the way to .748. He has 39 K in 159 ABs. While everyone else for Rome was learning to hit Salcedo took a step backwards.

J. J. Hoover, RHP -Gwinnett Braves - 5 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 6 BB, 5 K - Hoover was second in ERA in the Southern League when he was promoted to Gwinnett and for all intents and purposes looked to be ready after a solid showing for Mississippi late last year. His first two starts have indicated otherwise however as he didn't even make it to the second inning in his most recent start.
