Let's Talk Pitching and Jimenez to be more Specific

Post#1 » by Superiorblogman » Wed Jul 27, 2011 12:12 am

Some people think you can never have too much pitching and I am one of them. Also, do we even have a true Ace? I don't think so, maybe Jair if he plays like he did before the ASB, Lowe has had ace like playoff performances but he looks simply serviceable way too often. Hanson and Hudson are solid. We have the farm system to get a guy like Jimenez if what the asking price would be is four prospects.

What would you give up to get Jimenez?

Would you give up both Minor and Beachy and 2 other prospects further down the foodchain? Considering Beachy and Minor are probably going to be no better than the 5th guy in a five man rotation I would not have a problem with giving them both up.

Jair
Hudson
Hanson
Jimenez
Teheran

What can be better as a 5 man rotation for the future. Yes we need a starting lefty but I don't think it is Minor.

I know this out of the box, but you can never have enough pitching plus there are no bats out there worth this package. I am on the fence as to rather I think Hunter Pence or Adam Jones is worth both Minor and Beachy, but I think Jimenez would make your 5 man rotation stronger than both of them put together for years to come.

Don't need him, Jair is our ace this yr. He and Hanson both have ace potential, as does Teheran.

Could use him and the combination of Minor and Beachy will never come close to giving what he could give on the field and off with bringing people to the yard

Never said that. We don't need pitching, we need hitting, specifically a lead off hitter.

Hitting needs to be our priority.

If we intend on pursuing a starter, I prefer it to be Felix Hernandez, because we have some history with him, and the kid is extremely loyal. Felix Hernandez is also the type of strikeout pitcher we could use in our rotation.

I would be happy if we had got Jimenez atleast we would be a stronger team after the trade deadline. I don't like the attitude that it had to be a offensive outfielder. Just don't, the Phillies didn't say we have Hamels, Holliday, and Oswalt that's enough, they went and got Lee. We are going to end up coming out of this bare.

I would be thrilled if we acquired Jimenez, but offense is more of our priority at the moment, and Jimenez would fit in our plans because his salary is very affordable.

2011:$2.8M
12:$4.2M
13:$5.75M club option ($1M buyout)
14:$8M club option ($1M buyout)

Philly never had someone like Derek Lowe who makes $15 million per year keeping them from adding more talent to their rotation. He is becoming useless and we cannot depend on him. I see your point and do agree with you, but Wren is going to continue with his young pitchers.

This was a post made almost a year ago and my opinion is even more validated now. We need a Ace type pitcher to stabilize our staff. If we have to give up Minor and a couple of farm hands to get a Ace we had better be doing it.

5 most Realistic candidates at the moment. Not really ace types but adding these guys and subtracting Minor would be a instant upgrade.
