Crazy money to Scherzer. He has his world series so going for the bank made sense.

Probably no more baseball news until they get a new CBA.

But something to keep in mind in the meantime...

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Carlos Correa's ask in contract negotiations prior to the lockout was $330-350 million.

Heyman adds that $330 million "was the clear minimum ask" for the free agent shortstop. This comes on the heels of news that Correa has dumped his previous representation and hired superagent Scott Boras. Correa is five months younger than Corey Seager and is coming off a terrific all-around season, so it's not a surprise that he's hoping to top the $325 million which Seager netted earlier this offseason. Of course, there needs to be a new CBA in place before Correa and Boras can negotiate with anyone.

So the Dodgers get Kimbrell for Pollock. Kimbrell started out great last season but was very ordinary after he was traded. Pollock's coming off a very good offensive year - though his days in CF are probably over.

Joc Pederson went 4-for-6 with three homers and eight RBI in Tuesday's 13-12 win over the Mets.

Oh goodness gracious. Pederson was absolutely dialed in at the plate on Tuesday, swatting a two-run homer in the third inning, a two-run homer in the fifth inning, a game-tying three-run homer in the eighth inning and an RBI single in the ninth inning. Coming with two outs in the ninth inning against Edwin Diaz, that last single might not have been as loud as the three dingers, but proved just as crucial to the final outcome, as it tied the game up at 12-12 and set the stage for Brandon Crawford's RBI single to end the whole shebang. With this monster effort logged, Pederson is now slashing .255/.316/.578 with 10 homers and 22 RBI across 102 at-bats this season. He is just one homer shy of tying his total from the 2021 campaign.

Kris Bryant went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Better late than never, right? Bryant smacked a solo homer off Phil Bickford to lead off the sixth inning, finally putting up his first dinger since joining the Rockies on a seven-year, $182 million mega-contract over the offseason. Back problems have limited Bryant to just 23 games played this season. When he has managed to hit the field, the veteran third baseman is slashing .293/.350/.380 with one homer and six RBI.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that Padres superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. will be suspended for 80 games for violating Major League Baseball's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Yikes. The suspension will cover the remainder of the 2022 season and will continue for 42 games into the start of the 2023 campaign -- making him ineligible for postseason play. It's a crushing blow to the Padres who were finally on the verge of getting him back, as Tatis had been playing on a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A San Antonio. The substance that he tested positive for is clostebol which is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid and a derivative of natural testosterone. In an official statement, the Padres announced that they were "surprised and extremely disappointed" when learning of the positive test and they are "hopeful that Fernando will learn from this experience".

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that the Mariners and Julio Rodríguez are finalizing a contract extension which will guarantee the outfielder more than $200 million and could be worth more than $450 million.

Jeff Passan of ESPN has more specifics on what is a complicated deal. It has a base of eight years and $120 million, after which the Mariners must decide on a club option. The length of depends on Rodríguez's performance in MVP voting and the salary ranges from $200-350 million. If the club option is turned down, Rodríguez has a player option for five years and $90 million. So, he's guaranteed at least $210 million and, in all likelihood, he'll wind up with a whole lot more. The commitment from the Mariners is a huge one when considering Rodríguez has less than a year of service time under his belt, but he's also just 21 and is already a major league star. The likely American League Rookie of the Year winner is batting .269/.328/.471 with 20 home runs and 23 stolen bases for a Mariners club trying to break a 20-year postseason drought.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Dodgers are meeting on Monday with free agent right-hander Justin Verlander.

Heyman adds that Verlander fits the Dodgers' preference for short-term, high average annual value contracts. He also notes that the Yankees and Mets are interested in the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, and the Astros are still in the mix as well. The 39-year-old right-hander would give the Dodgers' starting rotation a much-needed boost since Walker Buehler is likely to miss the 2023 campaign while recovering from elbow surgery, and lefty Tyler Anderson bolted for the Angels earlier this month via free agency.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Astros and free agent first baseman José Abreu have agreed to a three-year contract.

Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle adds that the deal is expected to be for $60 million. The defending World Series champion Astros were in desperate need of offensive upgrades at both first base and designated hitter, and managed to shore up both weaknesses by landing Abreu on a multi-year deal. The 35-year-old veteran first baseman remains a certifiable middle-of-the-order force, despite struggling last year in his final season with the White Sox. It's a phenomenal landing spot as he'll join Houston's loaded lineup in an extremely hitter-friendly home ballpark.

The Rangers and Jacob deGrom have agreed to a five-year, $185 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Passan says deGrom has already passed a physical. The deal includes a full no-trade and an option that could make it worth $222 million over six years. Obviously, it's a giant commitment to a 34-year-old who has been limited to 26 starts the last two years, but one imagines the Rangers would have had to clearly beat offers from the Mets and any other top contenders in order to lure him away.
