5 game suspension for Hamels. He'll miss 1 start.

Awesome feat by Hamilton going 5-5 with 4 HR's and 8 RBI. Amazing night!

On a sad note, Alex Gonzalez of Brewers out for season with torn ACL.

Kerry Wood set to announce retirement

Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reports that Kerry Wood will announce his retirement Friday.
Wood said at the end of last season that he was either going to pitch for the Cubs in 2012 or retire, but this still comes as a surprise. He's been woeful so far this season, posting an 8.64 ERA, 2.28 WHIP and 5/11 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings, but the right-hander will turn just 35 next month. It's not clear if the oft-injured right-hander is dealing with something physically or if he's just decided to call it quite. He'll end his career with an 86-75 record, 63 saves, a 3.67 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 1,581 strikeouts over 1,379 2/3 innings across 14 seasons.

I'll never forget when he first came in the league.

Wood had a tremendous amount of talent. Great to watch him in his prime.

Kerry Wood entered the game to face one batter and he ended his career by striking him out.

Adam Jones to sign a long-term contact with the O's

Post#286 » by HMFFL » Sat May 26, 2012 1:32 am

Apparently Adam Jones is going to sign a 6yr deal worth $85 million. So, what do you think about that contract? We had an opportunity to acquire him this past off-season in a deal that supposedly involved Martin Prado and JJ.

Not Philly, please.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, "folks" think Roy Oswalt will decide on a team this week.
We're assuming those "folks" are baseball folks. The Rangers are considered the favorite to sign the veteran right-hander, but the Orioles, Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers and Brewers have also been mentioned as possibilities. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported Sunday that he's looking for a prorated $7.5 million contract.

And the rich get richer. Love the way Ryan has handled the Rangers since going into mgmnt. That team is young and very good.

The contract is very fair for a player of Jones' talent and potential much luck to him and the O's going forward, I really want them to be the ultimate underdog who wins that division full of rich superpowers

So Youklis and $5.5 mill goes to the White Sox for RHP Zach Stewart and utility man Brent Lillibridge.

The 25-year-old Stewart is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 18 games with the White Sox this season. Lillibridge, 28, is hitting .175 with two RBIs and seven stolen bases in 48 games.

Carlos Lee refuses to leave Houston for the Dodgers. Seems he vetoed any trade to LA.

I take it Carlos has a family? Maybe, he just loves Houston?

Hamilton steals 100th base of season

Reds prospect Billy Hamilton stole two bases with High-A Bakersfield on Monday night to give him 100 for the season.
Hamilton needed just 78 games to get there. The all-time single-season professional record for stolen bases is 145, set by Vince Coleman in 1983 for the Class A Macon Redbirds. If he keeps up his current rate, there's a realistic chance he could break it. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ym ... =news_milb

Carlos Lee owns a massive cattle ranch in the Houston area.

Carlos Lee is now a Miami Marlin. Traded for a 3rd baseman and a pitcher. Cannot find either on their Roster, so they must be in the Minors. Houston will also pay a portion of Lee's salary. So, one of our Division rivals gets a little bit stronger. Hurray!

Come on Mr. Wren. Time to act.

Rangers Viewed As 'Favorites' To Land Hamels

The Phillies are expected to strongly consider trading Cole Hamels if they continue to struggle as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline gets closer.

The left-hander is set to become a free agent after the season. http://baseball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_ ... nd_hamels/

That would be huge for the Rangers. Takes away a competitor for Greinke, but looks like the Orioles are hot after Greinke also,

Return to Atlanta Braves
