The Cards won two of three against the Brewers. I give the Cards the edge against us at the moment and due to the pitching rotations. Hopefully the Bravos prove me wrong and sweep.

A sweep means that we're home free for the wild card

If the Cards sweep, the WC race is still on. If Atlanta sweeps, it is over. I think it is most likely a 2 out of 3 for one of the teams, so not much movement either way. But that still bodes well for Atlanta as that would be 3 more games down.

Freddie G comes up with some silly excuses not to play guys. Alex has a good track record against Edwin Jackson and should be playing if Freddie G really was a man of his word and the whole history theory but he obviously is not. On the other hand, I have no problem seeing what Wilson can do because Alex is way too undisciplined at the plate, but why couldn't Freddie G just say that instead of coming up with these lame lines everytime he wants to sit a guy? Sitting Alex for a couple of games is not going to fix the fact that he has been playing everyday.

It must just be a day off for Gonzo. I know it's odd for a player to sit when he does well against a pitcher but I won't look into too much.

Found an article.

A. Gonzalez not being punished

Fredi Gonzalez was surprised Friday when asked by two media members, in separate interviews, whether he had benched Alex Gonzalez late in Thursday’s doubleheader for lack of hustle.

The question arose after fans speculated on the Internet during and after the game that Gonzalez was pulled and replaced by Wilson as a disciplinary measure.

“No, we double-switched,” said Fredi Gonzalez, who brought in Wilson to replace No. 7 hitter Gonzalez in the sixth inning, when reliever Cristhtian Martinez replaced Julio Teheran.

Backup catcher David Ross, batting eighth, struck out to end the previous inning. Gonzalez didn’t want to replace the catcher, since Brian McCann caught the first game Thursday.

As for Alex Gonzalez, the manager said he had already planned to give the veteran some rest in the weekend series against the Cardinals. He probably won’t play until Sunday, which the Braves hope will help calm down a chronic back that’s flared a bit recently.

“That’s why I’m here, to give guys a break, a double-switch or whatever,” Wilson said. “I can give Gonzo a little breather for his back. I’m just trying to do the best I can to help the team.”

Wilson was 12-for-32 (.375) with five doubles in his past 11 games before Friday. He thrived at Busch Stadium in the past, batting .342 with eight extra-base hits and 12 RBIs in 21 games.

“Any time you get a chance to get out there and play, it’s fun,” he said. “I don’t even remember how I did here, it’s been so long.” http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blo ... raves_blog

Had them loaded with 1 out and could not get even 1 run across in the 4th. That is the kind of thing that comes back to haunt you. I have a bad feeling. Come on Delgado, keep up the good work young man.

I think Fredi will let him pitch another inning that's it. He needs to be smart about who he uses in the PEN. We have seen him make some poor decisions recently and throughout the season.

And Kimbrel lets us down. Wow! He just imploded in the 9th. Gonna have to score more to pull this one out. Hate to have this game won like that and see the Cards rally for the tie. Very deflating.

Linebrink in. Oh well, we are about to lose this game now.

That's a 2 game swing in the wildcard. Should have moved up to an 8.5 lead. Instead it is a 6.5 lead. That is a bad loss. Have to bounce back tonight.

Magic number for the playoffs is 12, whatever we do we are not I repeat are not allowed to be swept by seemingly the only team that can take us out of the playoffs.

I watched it and went to bed. Co-Workers of mine assumed we won since we lead in the 8th inning.

Already down 4-2. I'm going to watch football for a while and see if I'm surprised when I turn back later.

Return to Atlanta Braves
