I love the way the Braves are quick to promote their top prospects. I think they learn faster that way, and keeping them challenged is a good thing. The negative is that they could lose some confidence if they're overwhelmed at first in the new league. Just gotta do it on a case by case basis.

Also gotta love the way Johan Camargo has taken his demotion to AAA. Small sample size, but he's 24 of his first 46 at bats - a ridiculous .522 average with a 1.277 OPS. It seems he is in the process of getting his value back up. It might be interesting when they decide on the post-season roster - will they need to choose between him and Hech? I'd choose Camargo.

And Riley's hitting well, so expect him back soon.

Amazing that he and Pache are both 20 in AAA. The one negative is the high SO and low W rates - he just needs to be more selective. Pretty much no doubt that he'll hit more homers next year - especially with AAA using the MLB baseballs.

Atlanta Braves trade Gwinnett outfielder Ryan LaMarre to Twins

Well, at least one Stripers’ player isn’t done playing baseball this season. Before noon on Sunday, the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins agreed on a deal sending LaMarre to the Twins in exchange for cash.

The Twins immediately added LaMarre to their 40-man roster, though the 30-year-old can only play during the regular season — he isn’t postseason-eligible in 2019.

24th pick or 24th round?

24th round pick - my bad.

Nice article on him: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/braves-add-bryce-ball-to-player-pool.html

The Braves minor league system has fallen in the rankings according to MLB.com falling from 8th to 15th.
15. Atlanta Braves
2020 preseason rank: 8
2019 midseason rank: 7
2019 preseason rank: 3

It's understandable and expected - as the Braves have had low picks the last few years and had the fiasco with the prior GM with signing international players - and subsequently being stripped of 13 prospects. The Atlanta Braves are set up well for the next several years. By then, we'll hopefully have made some key international signings to boost the farm and the Braves' future. Hopefully, we have the right people to rebuild a strong international foundation.

Good game at Gwinnet yesterday - Wright got a 1 hit 1 walk 7 inning complete game shutout, and both Waters and Pache homered. They're both finally starting to hit at AAA. Waters has the higher OPS: .733 vs .695.

Here's a fun to read analysis of the Braves draft. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/grading-each-pick-in-the-atlanta-braves-2021-mlb-draft-class/ar-AAMeWsk I don't know the writer, but he seems really well plugged in. His analysis of the 1st rounder sounded right on - not impressive. Starting in the 5th round, it seemed like the Braves did great. Unfortunately, it's usually the top 3 rounds where ya gotta hit in the MLB draft, and the Braves didn't do great there. But I get the impression, we got some kids who are good long-range prospects, so I'm pleased. I loved the stat on the 14th rounder - he only struck out twice in 190 plate appearances - that's almost inhuman against any level of competition - Caleb Durbin - and it sounds like he has legit tools.

Travis Demeritte (1.145 OPS) and William Contreras (1.309 OPS) are hitting the heck out of the ball in AAA. Demeritte might not get a call-up because he's still striking out at a very high rate. Nice to see that Contreras didn't sulk after the demotion.

Ryan Cusic (Braves first round pick) made his debut in the South Atlantic League yesterday. He went 3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 7 K's, no walks. They must have had him on a 50 pitch maximum, as he threw only 48 pitches. This was good to see - as many teams don't even use their drafted pitchers this year.

They're bringing him along slowly - which makes sense - 3 starts, only 8 innings, 6 hits, 3 walks, and 15 K's. 1.13 for both his ERA and WHIP. My guess is they start him next year at high A, build up his innings, and give him every opportunity to stay a starter. But his ultimate role may be closer - which is fine. Tbh, I'm not sure Atl has a closer.

Btw, 2 great picks by the Braves:

1. 2019 11th rounder Vaughn Grissom, just 20 but he's either the Braves 2Bman or SS of the future. Exceptional batting eye and seems like the total package. Hopefully, he can stay at SS. Watch him fly up the ratings.

2. 2020 5th rounder Bryce Elder. Started the season at high A, promoted to AA and did better, promoted to AAA and did even better. They must be ecstatic over his progress. Having a guy like him is oner reason they don't need to over-spend on someone like Smyly.

2022 Offseason Braves Prospect List: The first tier (nos. 1-9)

This morning I put out my latest prospect list, my 2022 Offseason Braves Prospect List. As I mentioned with the actual rankings, this time around I’ve increased the list to 35 players, which allows me to better cover the talent and depth in this Braves system. I’ve also incorporated tiers, including five tiers in my list to provide a bit of context.

Click for rankings, names, and pictures.
