The struggles of Jair Jurrjens continue unabated, and the question on a lot of folks’ minds was how long the Braves could afford to keep the right-hander in their starting rotation.
That was answered late Monday when Jurrjens was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, less than an hour after the Braves’ 7-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jurrjens (0-2) gave up nine hits and five earned runs and left without recording an out in the fourth inning of the loss, the second in a row for the Braves since they won 10 of 11.
“We optioned Jair tonight to give him a chance to work through his difficulties at the Triple-A level and hopefully come back ready to help us contend,” Braves general manager Frank Wren said in a text message after the announcement.
“He is not having any health or injury issues, just needs to get back on track pitching-wise.”
Jurrjens has a 9.37 ERA in four starts this season and has been knocked around for 30 his and 17 runs in 16-1/3 innings, with more walks (10) than strikeouts (eight). http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blo ... raves_blog

should have traded him last season or in the offseason.
maybe he'll go type b when we let him walk and we'll get some compensation now.

There was no way with us being in the position of the wildcard last year at the trade deadline that we could have afforded to trade him at the time (would have meant starting 2 rookies and Lowe in rotation), it would have been great foresight considering what happened with his knee, but you just can't predict that kind of stuff especially how he was throwing the ball the first half of last year. A lot of teams had the same injury concerns as we did about Jurrjens, which is why we couldn't deal him this off-season, trust me when I say the Braves tried but no team was going to offer fair value and we would have been selling low and basically got similar value to what he's worth right now anyway. The "best" offer I heard was Jurrjens, Prado, Delgado, and possibly another prospect for Adam Jones.
Your type B comment makes no sense. We were going to let him walk after next season regardless and his value going from Type A to Type B is much worse considering we would go from getting the team he signs with's pick instead of a supplemental pick later in the draft.
I still think he's good enough of a pitcher that he'll break out of whatever funk he's in with the G-Braves and come back in 2-3 weeks and throw like the Jurrjens we've become familiar with (IF he's healthy).

At least his contract is this long, if it was shorter Wren might've been pressured to give him the big money long term deal a Boras client gets. Imagine being stuck with him long term and having him eat up our salary. Yikes

I was asking for us to trade him before last season even started, so I had that foresight

How do you know what Frank Wren got offered for him? I don't think you do, other than the rumors you've read online. Fair value for him wasn't Adam Jones anyway, except to delusion Braves fans.
I know Type B is worse than Type A - I hope he at least somehow MAINTAINS Type B so we get something for him. I'm not sure that will happen, he may walk for nothing.
The Jurrjens you've become familiar with isn't a very good pitcher, never really has been. We should have unloaded him two years ago.
Oh well, hopefully he gets it together in AAA and can help this team make a run THIS year, but I doubt it.

No way Jair re-signs here now. So, if he gets right they need to trade him because this is really not fair to be honest. Lowe was worse last year and it went on all year basically. The Braves are my team but I do not like the way they show favoritism and run the organization.

To say that JJ has never been a good pitcher is not fair to him at all. He was solid for Atlanta for a good while. Just never bounced back from injury the way we wanted or think he should have. But I also am very skeptical of him returning to his prior pitching status. I really hope he does. For his sake, as well as the Atlanta's. Would be a nice trade chip if he shows he has his stuff back.

I want nothing more than him to be lights out for us, and I hope that comes to fruition. I simply think the odds are extremely low.

With the Yankees losing Pineda for the year, wonder if they would overpay for JJ?

Thanks for the update.
I guess he won't have a future as a Brave.

Very positive outing for him. I hope it's a sign of things to come for him and he can rejoin the team Atlanta team.
