Possibility of Zach Greinke

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Sat Jul 7, 2012 10:31 am

Whats the possibilty that the Braves trade for Zach Greinke and lock him up long term? I read that Greinke would want to play for Atlanta, especially because its close to his Orlando home

I think the Braves and Rangers lead in the eyes of the public to get him. And I dont think I'd make the move and trade Delgado or other young pitches without having an extension in place. But I think it is more crucial to Atlanta's future to keep Bourn before trying to obtain and lockup Greinke. This team has been searching for a while for a quality starting CF, leadoff batter and top notch base stealer. They have one in Bourn now. They must extend him and solidify his position as a key starter for the Braves for the next 5 years.

We have drafted well with our pitchers. So I dont have the concern with the youth we have as far as solidifying our rotation. But what Bourn does for us is so very crucial to our success. Just see him as the number 1 priority right now.

I would love to have Greinke on the Braves. I went to school with him, and I would love to see a friend of mine play for my favorite MLB team. Unfortunately the Braves are owned by Liberty Media, who are cheap owners. It's going to be hard to get and lock up Greinke for the Braves, Bourn and McCann are also due to be FA's at the end of the season.

Yeah man, I went to Conway Middle and Boone High with Greinke here in Orlando. He transferred to Apopka High after our freshman yr. We used to shoot hoops at each others house in middle school. Zack was good at all sports, he was born an athlete.

Many teams are pursuing him. We must acquire him and make a statement.

Just to update this, odds are Greinke is going to be making 2 more starts for the Brewers and then the decision to trade him will be made unless the Brewers can work themselves into a better position in the division/wild card. They have series with Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Cincinnati after the break and if they don't make up any ground, they will become sellers.

Nemesis, that's totally awesome you went to high school with Greinke. :)

That's good to know, bstrassburg. That's three series that should be difficult for the Brewers to win. I like the chances of them becoming sellers.

Return to Atlanta Braves
