Braves, Mariners, Rangers in on Justin Upton

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Jan 4, 2013 5:15 pm

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the Rangers, Mariners and Braves have all "expressed strong interest" in Justin Upton. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/ariz ... ves-010313

I have lost faith in our FO signing anyone of any consequence at this point. Prices may be dropping, but until ownership changes to a single owner who is not subject to shareholders wanting their money, we are limited in spending. Wren can only do so much. He has done well with what has been given to him for spending.

Hi, first time poster on this board. Anyway, Justin doesn't want to go to the M's and the Rangers have pulled out the running(both according to the wiretap) so I guess our chances are better? And his brother is on the team...who knows?

From the article,

If the Braves were to present a comparable package to the one the Mariners proposed, it would include Julio Teheran or Randall Delgado, Eric O'Flaherty or Jonny Venters, shortstop Nick Ahmed and likely either J.R. Graham or Zeke Spruill.

I'd do Delgado, Venters, Ahmed and Spruill for Upton and maybe a relief arm.

If BJ and Justin have discussed them playing together for the Braves, then it would hopefully mean that we are one of the ones (hopefully few) with whom he would not block a trade. Might give us leverage. But Arizona wont trade him just for the sake of trading him. It has to be a respectable offer.

Agreed, Teheran had a shaky season but he's still a top prospect

Yep, also if the Braves make the trade, we are guaranteed at least 3 season with the Upton bros and Heyward in the outfield.
