Braves signed SS Kevin Maitan to a $4.25 million contract.
The 16-year-old is widely regarded as the top overall prospect available during this international signing period. The Braves also have reportedly added several other key international pieces on Saturday, agreeing to terms with C Abrahan Gutierrez ($3.5 million), SS Yunior Severino ($1 million), SS Yenci Pena ($1 million), INF Livan Soto ($1 million), RHP Guillermo Zuniga ($350,000) and RHP Juan Contreras ($200,000).

Farm system is number 1 by a mile now. I thought it was 1 before the draft and international signings, with some saying Dodgers, but now there's no discussion.

It's interesting that the catcher, Guitierrez, is rated so highly, but some actually rate Severino even higher than him, so Severino might also be a special talent.

Btw, they signed a couple talented 16/17 year old international prospects last year as well - SS Derian Cruz and CFer Cristian Pache. Cruz was the 5th rated international prospect and got a 2 million bonus. Pache was almost as highly rated and got a 1.4 mil bonus. They've both started out well in the GCL this season. They're batting 2nd and 3rd in the order after speedster Randy Ventura - the old man at 18 years old.
