Braves acquire 2014 First Round pick(6th overall) OF prospect Alex Jackson and a PTBNL from the Mariners for Rob Whalen and Max Povse.

Don't know anything about Jackson, hate to lose Povse though.

Edit * looking at both teams top 30 prospect list, Jackson is now our number 13 prospect(6th in Mariners). Povse is now the Mariners number 10 prospect(20th in Braves) and Whalen their 14th(22nd in Braves).

Reading on the Braves website, they plan to move Jackson back behind the plate. He was a C/OF coming out of high school, the M's tried him in RF and didn't work out to well. Hart and Coppy are hoping a change in scenary and moving back to catcher, would be good for Jackson.

^Yeah Braves are taking a bit of a gamble on a high risk/high reward young player at a position of need.

Moving some of the excess pitching for hitting was an inevitability.

Moving a couple of likely big league rotation guys for a long shot teenaged hitter is risky, though.

Time will tell whether this gamble pays off.

Baseball America named the Rome Braves its 2016 Minor League Team of the Year after the youngest South Atlantic League team in a decade rode a dominant rotation to the league title. The award typically goes to the team with the best combination of team success and high-end prospect talent.

The Rome Braves started the year off slow but caught fire after that. When they got to the playoffs, no team had a shot. The pitching was ridiculous…49.1 innings pitched, 0.73 ERA, 50 strikeouts and only eight walks.

The future looks pretty sweet boys.

#Braves give up RH Chris Ellis & INF Luke Dykstra (son of Lenny), both in top 30 ATL prospects, neither in top 15. Not sure if Gant in deal

Confirming #Braves have made trade for #Cardinals lefty Jaime Garcia, am told they're sending sending mid-level prospects to St. Louis

he is on 1yr deal

Folty

I hate to lose Ellis, if only one year from Garcia. Closes the wishes on Chris Sale, not mad would have loved to have him, but not mad.

I figured we'd eventually have to trade some of our excess, mid-level pitching for other needs. But I'd hoped we would get more in return than underwhelming prospects (Alex Jackson) and injury plagued major-leaguers (Garcia).

I don't hate these trades. But I don't exactly love them, either.

The 'Johns' have been quick to admit and correct mistakes during their run, so they get the benefit of the doubt...for now.

ESPN Insiders seem to like it:

The Atlanta Braves continue to do well with quiet, short-term moves this winter, this time by picking up veteran lefty Jaime Garcia from the St. Louis Cardinals. Garcia has one year remaining on his deal, and the Braves got him for three players who wouldn’t have made my rankings of their top 20 prospects this winter.

So...that's something.

we can trade them midseason if we struggle, get a few prospects back ii guess.

and we all know we will probably draft a few pitchers high in the draft

We're still in talks for Sale, but a move like this seemed necessary. We were slated to go into the season with no starting lefties next year (Newcomb needs a full season in AAA IMO).

Rotation seems set even without a big move for an ace.

They would probably hang up on you.

I'd do Garcia, Wisler, Blair, Sims, Ruiz and Demeritte for Sale, relief pitcher Jennings and C prospect Jhoandro Alfaro.

Sale
Teheran
Colon
Dickey
Folty

Collementer long relief/emergency starter

Reports are that the Sox are willing to lower their asking price for Sale, but even so with how thin the pitching market currently is, with the fact that he's signed in long term on a cheap contract and with how good Sale really is, I'm sure none of us would be happy with the package of players given up if we do strike a deal -- it'll still be massive.

I think we could do it, while holding on to Dansby(untouchable), Albies and potentially all 3 of Newcomb, Allard, Anderson. At the very least we would have to give up 1 of those 3 pitching prospects.

yea i would give blair and wisler too.

basically any of our prospects besides Dansby, Ozzie, Newcomb, Maitan and the top 18-20yr old pitchers (Allard, Ian, Soroka etc.)
