2017 Games Thread -- The future is now

Post#421 » by TheKingofSting » Sat Jul 22, 2017 7:02 am

Braves beatdown the Dodgers like they stole something to win Game 2, 12-3 to gain a series split at the very worst.

Welp we already took care of LA's team 11 game winning streak so we just went ahead and ended Wood's 11 game winning streak and rocked him at that!

Great win!

I had no idea how good Wood has been this season(except last night), reminds me that I never liked the Olivera trade. What do we have to show for that trade?? Man, I wish we kept Wood and sent them Wisler and Blair instead. :banghead:

We basically got Kemp in the end out of that trade, I think Wood's season is a fluke due to unsustainable run support and pitching stats. His arm still may also blow out any day now with that funky delivery.

Forgot about Kemp lol. I always like Wood though.

Dodgers take Game 3, 6-2. We let one get away on a pissy lucky roll against the shift by Grandal to an unoccupied 3B and I'm still trying to figure out why Snit pitched to Puig and even so how Flowers didn't hold onto the baseball to get a game changing out. It's going to be tough if not impossible vs. Kershaw and Newcomb still taking his learning lumps. I'd have taken a split at the team with the best record in the NL before the series.

Julio Teheran is a number 3 starter at best moving forward.

I'd like to trade him. He can't stay consistent and gives up a ton of HRs, 3 last night, for 23 on the season. He's on pace to allow 40. Every season since 2013, he's allowed at least 23 HRs, with the most coming in 2015 at 27, he'll pass that this season. Sell on Teheran. Should have kept Alex Wood. :banghead:

I know we aren't making the playoffs this year but games like today make the team both fun to watch and aggravating. Jim Johnson was only good here when Roger M. worked with him, just release him and bring Minter up, Viz almost blew the game before ol Jim did. Dodgers win 5-4 in 10 innings after a Big Braves 9th inning rally to tie the game!

Ender is killing Arizona pitching and Snit sits him smh. He should have sat him a game in LA if he needed a day off that bad. Snit gets the team to play hard but he's a horrible game manager.

Braves win Game 2 in Arizona, 8-3. Suzuki with two more homers, Camargo and Kemp also go yard and Folty shows the guts of a cat burglar to get out of the sixth inning. Folty has really figured things out giving up 3 ER or less in 17 of his last 20 starts to match his win total (9) from all of last season. The Braves have won 12 of Folty's last 14 starts and nine in a row.

The A's are said to be looking for pitching and OF prospects(they believe Beck will be a RF, looking for CF prospect) for Gray. No way would I give up Acuna or Pache. At most I'd do Toussaint, one of Newbcomb/Wisler/Blair and Peterson for Gray and reliever Daniel Coulombe.

Folty is really figuring things out as he matures, and is reacting much better now when things don't go his way than he did in the past. If everything continues clicking for him we might have a number 2 starter on our hands.

Pache might be too far away from the bigs, and he's shown no power - I'd be fine trading him. But yeah, I'd flip out if the Braves traded Acuna.

Acuna, Maitan and Kyle Wright are now my only prospects off limits from trade talk.

I'd flip out if one of these guys were moved for anything less than Mike Trout.

And Soroka. I loves control/command pitchers with real good stuff - especially a 19 year old who dominates AA.

My list is a little longer, Acuna, Maitan, Allard, Soroka and Wright.

Pache has yet to show any power, but he has crazy good speed. Could be a Billy Hamilton type OF/leadoff hitter. Steal 30+ bases, good defense in the outfield. The problem for Hamilton and could be the same for Pache, is low walk rate. In nearly 4 full years in the bigs, Hamilton hasn't drawn more than 36 walks in a season.

5-1 D'backs in the 3rd. I would like to see Wisler and Blair included in any future trades we do. They just can't seem to get it together.

The Rockies have contacted the Braves about Kurt Suzuki. The Rockies are looking for a catcher and bullpen arm.

I'd do Kurt Suzuki and Arodys Vizcaino for OF prospect Sam Hilliard(#22 in their farm). They have Greg Holland, they won't be looking at Jim Johnson.

I think Hilliard is a good prospect return for those two. He's 23 6'5" 220. Plays RF for now, but more likely in LF at MLB level. He's hitting .290/.350/.467/.817 with 111 hits in 383 ABs, 17 dbls, 6 trpls, 13 HR, 70 RBI, 36 BB, 108 Ks(too high) 25 stolen bases in A+ball.

Hilliard is surprisingly fast for a big man and has 20-20 potential. He runs well enough to cover ground in center field but fits better on the corners. His arm, which provided 88-92 mph fastballs in college, works anywhere in the outfield.
