2017 Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Fri Dec 1, 2017 5:00 pm

Let's get it cooking.

Alex Anthopoulos is already hard at work improving the team, trading Jim Johnson.

Let's use this thread to talk all things 2017 offseason.

It's been such a slow free agent period thus far

Yes, a very slow off-season so far for us.
I am still excited about the upcoming season but it has been boring this off-season.

Ok, give me Gerrit Cole and George Kontos for Ian Anderson, Touki Toussaint, Cristian Pache and Patrick Weigel. Then go FA for 3b, 1-2 yr deal for Todd Frazier. Braves want another season or two to see Riley continue to develop.

Trade Markakis and prospect Ricardo Sanchez to Baltimore for a mid level prospect. Baltimore has shown interest in Markakis.

I can't see Baltimore having an interest in Nick - even though he was a fan favorite there and Buck loves him. Their top prospect - Austin Hays - is set to start in RF, and they're set in LF with Mancini and DH with Trumbo. And they have another corner OFer they like - Anthony Santander - who they need to keep on the roster to satisfy Rule V rules. Unless Hays stinks it up in ST, I can't see Nick going there.

Ok, I had read on twitter that Baltimore is. Could trade him elsewhere.

I've been watching Yelich with dreams of bringing him over to Atlanta for years and now we have that chance.

The cost would be steep, but you'd be getting an outfielder in his prime (26 y/o) who's a positive on both offense and defense. And, most importantly, he's locked into a manageable contract for 5 more years.

Acuna's off the table for me, but no other prospect should be.

Here's my idea, Soroka, Anderson, Pache and Ruiz for Yelich and Prado. Too much? Not enough?

Losing Soroka would pain me but if this is what it would take I'd pull the trigger, and this is probably what it would take. I would try to give Touki instead of Soroka but if Miami insisted, I'd do the deal.

Right it would definitely hurt, and I don't think Miami would take Touki instead. I want to keep at least two or three of Allard, Wright, Soroka, Anderson, Gohara, Folty.

The Marlins traded Ozuna to the Cards today. Hopefully we can pry Yelich from them.

Man, the Cardinals got Ozuna for only two top 30 prospects, #9 & #13, plus two non top 30 prospects.

AA call up Miami, Ian Anderson, Touki Touissant, Cristian Pache and Rio Ruiz for Yelich and Prado. Make it happen!!

Cards are on a roll, and don't be surprised if they go after Manny Machado now.

Braves picked an obscure pitcher in Rule 5 - Anyelo Gomes. Seems odd imo that they didn't choose Nestor Cortes - who was the next pick - he had real good AAA stats at 22 last season. I guess it's about who throws harder rather than who pitches better. But it's just possible the Braves are smarter than me... Nah.

I feel like they're just saying this to build some leverage in negotiations. There's no reason for them to keep Yelich with how bad they're about to be, and it's clear that his value will never be higher than it is now.

You could make the argument that Yelich, Ozuna, Stanton was the best OF in the NL last year. The Marlins just traded Ozuna and Stanton (a combined 96 homers last season) and didn't get any top 100 prospects in return. Their ownership makes Liberty Media look like Ted Turner.
