Braves 2018 MLB draft thread....

Post#1 » by Nemesis21 » Mon May 21, 2018 2:55 pm

The MLB draft takes place June 4th-6th 2018. The Braves have the 8th overall pick.

What would you like to see the Braves do with the 8th pick?

Personally I'd like to see them go with a bat at this pick. We need more bats and have plenty of pitching. Since 2009, Atlanta has taken only one position player in the first round, outfielder Braxton Davidson in 2014.

I think we need some more prospects at 3b, in case Riley doesn't pan out. Especially after the loss of Maitan. Right now I really like 3b Alec Bohm 6'4" 220lbs Wichita State. He would be my pick at 8.

Scouting report on Bohm,

I haven't looked at this draft at all in all honesty, not with the team finally winning. I can't wait to see the direction AA goes in his first draft.

So do I, and I hope AA breaks the norm, we have tons of pitching. We need to draft bats, and I think more so a bat with this 8th pick.

Bohm does sound like a stud - I'd be happy with that pick. I know nothing about the draft other than what i've read, so take what i say with a grain of salt. Braves have taken pitchers with 5 of their last 6 1st rounders, so I concur that it's time to take a bat. I think it comes down to athletic OFers Jarred Kelenic and Travis Swaggerty, and I'd lean towards Kelenic. If they don't get an OFer in round 1, I'll predict they go for one in the second round - perhaps Griffin Conine.

Bohm has been rising up the draft board the last few months and likely could become a top 10 pick. I like Bohm more than Jonathan India from UF, because of his size. Bohm 6'4" 220, India 6'0" 190. IDK if India has the size to stay at 3b. Chipper was about 6'4" 220

I hope they go 3b in round 1 and an OF in round 2.

Draft begins on Monday

Bleacher Report Mock, has moved Bohm up to the 3rd pick to Philly.

I really hope he is there for us at 8 and we take him.

I think Nemesis is right - it'll likely be a 3rd baseman in the first round. Sounds like Bohm will be gone in the top 4, but that leaves India and Nolan Goreman - a HSer considered by some to have the most natural power in the draft. The folks who like him say his stats were pushed down because nobody would pitch to him. He definitely passes the eye test as far as being a power hitter and won the MLB HS All-American HR Derby and the Under Armour All-American HR Derby. India sounds like the better defender of the 2. I'm thinking Goreman because of his similarities to former Braves phenom Bob Horner - they even both come from Arizona. Otoh, Pedro Alvarez might be a more realistic comp than Horner, so it might be smarter to look elsewhere. If they go pitcher, I'd bet Carter Stewart. But I'm just going by what I'm reading.

I'm thinking India will be the Braves pick, but I'd prefer Kelenic.

I'd now like to see Nolan Gorman, Carter Stewart or Matt Liberatore at #8

Sheesh, I thought India and Kelenic would be available. Now, I'd be happy with the 2 pitchers you mentioned - especially Stewart.

I guess Noah Taylor, the catcher, has to be considered? I know nothing about him.
