I'm so glad we kept this fool and didn't trade for Kluber/Bauer or sign Keuchel.

6-3 Phillies in the 7th. Teheran and Carle both allowed 3 runs. Matt Joyce first AB as a Brave, a 2 run PH HR.

Liberty Media and McGuirk regarding the Braves pitching, our starting pitching is fine, our bullpen is fine.

Phillies win 10-4. Pretty disgusting pitching performance all around for the Braves.

Unless Folty can reach Cy Young levels and Newcomb can improve from last season (highly doubtful looking at Spring Training), I don't see this team making the playoffs this year. The pitching is too inexperienced (we'll miss Anibal more than most think) and our bullpen is garbage. The payroll is about $20 million less this year than it was last season, so it'll be really easy to pinpoint the reason for any serious failures this year.

Just because we can’t draw full conclusions from small sample sizes doesn’t mean we can’t draw any at all. So here’s a key takeaway from every team’s performance after one day of games

Phillies 10, Braves 4

Philadelphia: Who needs Bryce Harper (0-3, two strikeouts)? Not Philadelphia, when Andrew McCutchen, Maikel Franco, and Rhys Hoskins are all parking hangers from a division rival and delighting the Phillies crowd.

Atlanta: Preseason concerns about Atlanta’s pitching staff were far from assuaged as Philadelphia’s offense erupted. Julio Teheran is a better midrotation man than ace, and the bullpen’s underbelly looks mighty soft.

Julio Teheran is better, not on the team. Should have traded him to Boston years back when they called.

Pivetta vs Wilson 4:05 PM ET

Wilson had a 3-0 lead and blew it in the 3rd and 4th innings. 4-3 Phillies end of the 4th.

Walks continue to hurt the Braves pitching. Wilson with 4 in 3.2 innings.

Luckily for us, Pivetta wasn't having a good day either. Freeman with an RBI single ground ball to LCF ties the game. 4-4

Wes Parsons serves up a 2 out grapefruit right down the middle, Realmuto doesn't miss with a 2 run HR, his first as a Phillie. 6-4 Phillies in the 5th.

As I said before, walks continue to kill us. Parsons walked the batter before Realmuto HR.

HRs continue to kill. Biddle allows a 2 out solo HR to Harper, his first as a Phillie. 7-4 Phillies in the 7th.

Offense did its job once again. I honestly don't believe this is a playoff team as presently constructed with the current pitching.
