Ok, they paid a little extra because he's a veteran key to the team that they can depend on. And the year means they're not taking a big risk. Hearing Morton interviewed recently, he sounds like someone that's important in the clubhouse/dugout - a leader type who really cares about his teammates. And more importantly, the guy's gifted and in great shape for a 37 year old.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, "there's still a gap" in contract extension talks between the Braves and Freddie Freeman.

Heyman writes that "both sides want to get it done and that’s the likelihood eventually" but adds that "free agency appears a surprisingly strong possibility." Freeman, who's currently scheduled to hit free the open market in November, has slashed .292/.388/.498 with 28 home runs and 73 RBI through 137 games this season for Atlanta. The soon-to-be 32-year-old first baseman earned National League MVP honors in 2020.

Disappointed in our bullpen but at this point I sadly expect them to give up many runs.

We should win 5 of the next 6 games - 3 against the Marlins and 3 against the Rockies. Then we get SF for 3. Philly's got an easy remaining schedule, so we can't let that lead slip.

I like all the solo homers we're hitting, but 3 run homers are better.

Btw, Philly's loss last night was brutal. They had a 2-1 lead with 2 outs in the top of the 9th, and Ian Kennedy gave up a 2 run homer and then another homer, Philly scored 1 in the bottom of the 9th and stranded runners on 1st and 3rd as Realmuto struck out swinging. That's a heart-breaking 4-3 loss. Let's see how they react.

Last night's game was a disaster this morning. We make a great comeback in the 9th with a 3 run homer by d'Arnaud to take a 5-4 lead - only for Will Smith to blow the save in the 9th, but the worst was ye to come. In the 11th, Jacob Webb threw the ball away trying to pick off the runner at 2nd. After an intentional walk, an out, and another intentional walk, SF had no position players left on the bench and actually sent up Kevin Gausman to pinch-hit. He hits a medium fly to right, and Joc's throw was off-line and late. Kevin Gausman won the game with a sac fly. Btw, SF's play by play guy, Jon Miller, is amazingly good.

Braves beat the Giants 3-0. Duvall(2 run) and Rosario go back to back in the 7th. Rosario also hits for cycle. Strong outing from Fried.

Atlanta and Philly both win against bad teams again - lead stays at 3. 3 more homers for the Atl infield: 31 for both corner infielders - Freddie and Riley - and 30 for Albies. Swanson is "stuck" at 26. Freeman also had 2 doubles. Ozzie got his 100th RBI. Duvall got his 109th (41 with the Braves). Ian Anderson was outstanding.
