Braves left-handed pitcher Mike Gonzalez will have ligament transplant surgery on his throwing elbow and will be sidelined for 12-14 months.
The news came after Gonzalez had his third MRI in New York on Thursday. An incomplete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament was discovered. Although it was not a complete tear, the "Tommy John" surgery

Thats a big blow, really was looking for him to come in big during the late run against the power lefties. You said it thank god for Soriano, just means we can't afford for Sori or Wick to go down.

I'm not going to cry about Gonzalez going down because almost every year the Braves lose key pieces to injuries and find a way to overcome them. Yates, McBride, and Moylan must step up to the plate. If they don't and Joey Devine isn't ready as I suspect, then the Braves are in trobule. They may be in trouble not because of injuries, but because the players who need to step up may not. Injuries happen every year to everyone and must be overcomed. I do think this team can overcome this injury and if it can't, then it doesn't deserve to be a playoff team period.

With this happening, i do see a trade for more Starting and relief pitching depth.
