The 48-year-old utilityman signed with Atlanta on Wednesday, rejoining the Braves a week after he was cut by the New York Mets.

Franco cleared waivers during the Braves' game against Cincinnati. Atlanta signed him for the rest of the season and said he would be activated for Thursday night's game against St. Louis.

Well we got him. Should be solid. Better bench for sure.

The positive side to this will be his locker room presence and that he's a fan favorite.

I was sad to see him go in the first place, so I'm glad we've got him back. He's not hitting too well this season, but being back in Atlanta might help turn things around.

And I must say, I'd much rather see him up at the plate than Chris Woodward...

I like the signing. You needed something to jumpstart the bench and I think Franco can be that player. If not, you don't waste much in the process.

Franco slammed by ex-teammates

Manager Willie Randolph said Franco should get more playing time with the Braves, and the reason he didn't with the Mets was a .200 average.

"If you play, you have to produce. That clubhouse stuff is overrated," said Randolph, who volunteered the information unsolicited.

Jose Valentin offered up that Franco was a less than eager participant in the club's pregame stretching.

However, what irked some players was Franco wouldn't hesitate to get in the face of some of the younger players about doing their jobs when he was hitting .200 with one homer with the Mets.

"To be a leader for me, it's not enough to talk all the time," Valentin said. "You have to go out and do it yourself."

I am glad to see Julio Franco back on the Braves roster again. He is a good player that if the Braves go deep into the playoffs can be a role-model for young players like Willie Harris and Yunel Escobar.

Also he can make a solid contribution for your club as well. Like just the other night he threw someone out at the plate, thats what guys need to do, make solid contributions every night and thats all the Braves are asking for and Julio Franco is the right guy for that.

Anyone still happy he's taking at bats away from Thorman and Salty?

cox is just giving franco some at bats to let him get in the groove again, once he does salty will be playing everyday, as he should be...
