Olney: Braves Interested In Arroyo
ESPN's Buster Olney heard a rumor: the Braves are interested in Bronson Arroyo. Olney believes the Reds would demand Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Personally, I think Salty can bring someone better. And using him at first base isn't the worst idea in the world, if no one knocks John Schuerholz's socks off.
Arroyo is the definition of an innings eater, and he's signed at about market rate. On second thought, $10MM a year for him might be slightly below-market. Atlanta got a good look at Arroyo last night, as the 30 year-old hurler had his best start of the season (seven scoreless innings). Arroyo has been solid in his last five starts, though he did get to face the Cardinals and Giants.
So, are there any Braves fans out there who would trade Salty for Arroyo?
Bold='s negative, no thank you!

Catching the Mets should not be our goal, It should be trying to win it all.
We need another pitcher desperately. But with that being said I dont think Arroyo is the right guy.

Better ask your fairy godmother for that wish. If it didn't happen in June, guess what......

Your right but we are currently battling for the wild card and catching the Mets. Also remember that the Mets are far from being healthy so add Pedro and the rest of the injuries into the mix and should eventually separate themselves from us. If the Mets had a healthy team during the entire season, I believe they would possibly lead the division by 8 games, if not more.
Yes, we need pitching badly, but we need to be smart about our decisions.

All joking aside, I fully expect ATL to catch the Mets at some point but I don't think they'll be able to sustain any lead as presently constituted. You're probably better off than us in the starting pitching department but our offense will soon start to click and I believe that will be the difference maker.

I would love to add Arroyo because they can control him through at least 2010 and is an innings eater. However, Salty is too much to give him up because he could become something special.

The Bronson Arroyo rumors are not dead yet. (Not much information)
The Braves also were said to be talking to the Cincinnati Reds (who dealt Kyle Lohse to the Philadelphia Phillies) about Bronson Arroyo

I've heard Jo-Jo and Scott for Bronson

That would be too much. Jo Jo is a good player, he just needs to be sent back down. Arroyo is solid but not worth that much. He is 4-11 right now with an era above 4 and almost a 2-1 K to BB ratio.

I disagree, Jojo has shown absolutly nothing since coming up besides the fact that he can get rocked. I would be much more content with Arroyo as our final starter then Jojo we are in a win RIGHT now mode. Unless we can find another starter for something else we should do this deal. If its no starting pitcher or Arroyo we take it. Bc we cant have Reyes in our rotation for the rest of the year. People are hyping up these new guys like crazy, its like if they hype them up it doesnt matter if they come up and play like crap they are still amazing for some reason.

Jo J is good. He beasted it in AA and was solid in AAA. I think we should try and package Diaz, Thorman, and/or prospects for that 4th/5th starter and send Jo Jo to AAA. He needs more time in AAA to become a better pitcher. Buddy will be just fine as a 4th/5th starter. To me, Arroyo has struggled this year. 4 wins?

I want to see Jo Jo at least two more times before I conclude he can't help us win right now.
I tend to think so far that he can.
I doubt we deal for Arroyo now anyway.

I don't know guys, I am tempted to pull the trigger on this deal. Arroyo has 3 years left on his contract at a reasonable price too. While I don't want to disregard his success in AA/AAA, Jojo has not really impressed me thus far. Still, he is young, and has a lot of potential to become a horse. Honestly, I would be happy if we get Arroyo because we get a bonefied starter for 3 years (he has pitched a lot better in his last 5 starts), but lose the potential of a stud in Reyes. Tough choices for JS.
