What do you believe Tim needs to do for the rest of the season to win the CY this year? (Except for the obvious, win)

Tim currently has a record of 11-5. He should have 14 wins but the bullpen failed him, but Tim also doesn't have any complete games or shutouts, so what do you believe it's going to take.

IMO, the Braves will most likely need to make the playoffs, Tim Hudson will need to continue his dominance, but he will need to add a complete game and shutout.

Brad Penny is 13-1 with a 2.51 era, but he also has no shutouts or complete games, and he's only allowed 4 home runs like Timmy.

Others to consider as of right now:

Carlos Zambrano, John Maine and Cole Hamels.

He needs Penny to stumble some and he needs the bullpen to help him out.

Well voters love wins, so I'd say he needs to get to at least 20 wins and hope no one else does.

Looks like Penny has got it if he keeps those numbers up.

Zambrano is making a pretty good case for it as well.

he needs to stay consistent and needs for Zambrano and Penny to fall of a little bit.

I think you guys are also forgetting about the Padras and their two great picthers. I would love Timmy to do it, but i dont think so this year

geez, anybody ever heard of jake peavy? he's only the best pitcher in the NL....he's got the cy in the bag no doubt

Jake Peavy is 10-5 with a 2.41 ERA and has zero CG/Shutouts.

Chris Young is 9-3 with a 1.82 ERA and has zero CG/Shutouts. (Also hurt)

As of right now I give Brad Penny the edge over everyone, if he can stay healthy, keep winning and add a CG/Shutout to his already productive year.

peavy: 10-5, 2.41 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 144 Ks, 40 BBs, 111 hits, .220 BAA
penny: 13-1, 2.51 ERA, 1.19 ERA, 98 Ks, 42 BBs, 120 hits, .240 BAA

peavy beats out penny in all of the major categories, the W-L record isnt all of a major stat....

With the cy young voting win-loss is the biggest state. Peavy has to win games. If a player has a higher era, k's, and os on but has a 20-5 record, he will win it over the lower era guy who is 15-8. That's the truth.

no not really, brandon webb won it last year with 16 wins, huddy will win more than that....

the W/L record isnt a major stat because its more of a team stat than an individual stat for the pitcher, like those others i posted were....a good example was hudson's performance against SF, he had the win in the bag but big bob ruined it for him, but that doesnt take away from how great hudson pitched.....

i do think that hudson will be in the top 5 in voting....

Most smart fans of the game know the W-L stat isn't that important, but voters love it.

With a lot of guys pitching really well this year, I guarantee you it will factor heavily in the Cy Young voting.

That is what I have been saying. In the Cy Young voting the win-loss column factors in heavily.

I'd say he has almost no chance barring any unbelievable streak to end the season. He doesn't have the wins, the ERA or the strikeouts totals that Cy Young voters are looking at. Smoltz has a better shot, but still no shot IMO.

Of course, if not for the 9th inning meltdowns in the Florida and San Francisco games, he'd be in a great position. 13-3 with about a 2.62 ERA. Though if he had the Yankees offense he'd probably have 18-20 wins now.

IMO hudson has a better shot, and does have a small chance....

the yankees offense would be nice, but we have the best offense in the NL, #s prove it....

Our offense still isn't close to as good as the Yankees and our lineup has too many off nights. At least pre-Teixeira, haven't seen enough with him (+ Edgar) to judge the new offense.

The reason I say Smoltz has a better shot is because he's much more popular than Hudson, he'll end the year with a similar win total and ERA and he'll have the strikeouts that voters love.

I still believe Timmy needs to throw a couple shutouts, maybe even a couple complete games and I hope he's able to keep his ERA under 3.
