well as i now see the article that says tex turned down a 8 year/140 million dollar deal (17.5 mil per), i'm worried that theres no way we resign him, with boras being his agent and with teams like the yankees and red sox bidding against us....
and if thats the case, this is going to turn out to look really horrible....on the other hand, if we can resign him it wont look as bad....
my reasoning for all that:
salty and andrus are going to be stars
harrison is going to be a solid pitcher
feliz, jones, and startup will be pretty good pitchers
davies might turn out to be alright
after all that said, the next year and a half is going to be really good times for braves fans....

overall trade deadline deals grade: B-

I would give the Braves a B+ right now. Getting Teixeira and Dotel will bring immediate dividends in 2007. They gave up some quality prospects in those deals though and I hated to give up on Davies, but think about it. Salty was behind McCann and Andrus was behind Escobar and Harrison wasn't considered that much better than Jo-Jo or Lerew when healthy.
I also like the late Ring trade as I think he could be an important piece in the bullpen come September. In the end, the grade depends on whether we can re-sign Teixeira and could go as high as an A and as low as a C.

im not givin a plus, when we shoulda got a better reliever than mahay from TEX and we gave up so much future....and if we dont resign tex, its gonna be a D/D-
just looked at some of mahay's stats, this guy isn't as good as i previously thought....
career - 3.98 ERA (not bad, not great)
career - 1.42 WHIP (not very good)
2007 - 1.38 WHIP (not very good)
2007 - 1.17 WHIP vs lefties (not bad, not great)
2007 - 1.57 WHIP vs righties (not very good)
career 7.62 K/ 9 IP (not very good)
2007 7.38 K/ 9 IP (not very good)

We should have gotten a much better pitcher from Texas. We gave up enough to get one.
I felt we had a big whole/lack of depth at one position.....and we did nothing to fix that. We need some more starting pitchers but we didn't get any. I guess we better hope that no one gets hurt and Reyes and Buddy can really step up.

B- gave up too much for Texeira, didn' t need to give up 5 players especially since they wouldn't send us Wilson. and I'm suprised we didn't see Thorman and fillers for Arroyo.

Grade: B
That B could easily turn to (F)ailure after the end of the year if we won't bring Mark back.

I am very happy with everything that happened. Tex will be back next year as he is arbitration eligible. His salary will most certainly jump to 12+ million per year, but with Andruw likely to go (unless he gives them a nice hometown discount), they will have plenty of money to pay him.

I still can't believe the Pirates traded for Matt Morris.
What?
