"I would like to offer my congratulations to Barry Bonds on becoming baseball's career home run leader. It is a great accomplishment which required skill, longevity and determination," Aaron said.

"Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in baseball, and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family on this historic achievement.

"My hope today, as it was on that April evening in 1974, is that the achievement of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams."

Just another classy gesture by Aaron. His good friend Bud could take a lesson or two from him.

I for one am not a Bonds fan but think it is amazing that he broke the record. I would have loved to have been there to see it. I dont understand why the comish of baseball wouldnt be there even if Aaron is a good friend. No class at all if you ask me.

The commissioner wasn't there when Aaron broke Ruth's record. In fact, the commissioner isn't there when a lot of records are broken.

The media made a big deal about Selig not being there for Bonds' 756th, but the fact is that historcially the comish isn't always there for these types of milestones. But of course, knowing how the media works, they tried to turn it into a story by making it a Bonds/Selig fued.

Selig attended a bunch of games, including the one where Bonds hit 755.
