Braves have a day to relaxe and focus on the next series today, there next series is a must must must win for them they are going head-to-head with the New York Mets.

Probable Starters

First game of series:

Tim Hudson vs. John Maine

Second game of series:

Chuck James vs. To be announced

Third game of series:

John Smoltz vs. Tom Glavine

This matchup will be one of the two greatest pitchers of MLB history. John Smoltz is the all-time strikeout leader for the Atlanta Braves and this year Tom Glavine reached 300 games. These two pitchers are for sure Hall of Famers some day.

Yea...But Dontrelle has a reputation for both hitting and pitching.

Final Score: 7-4 Braves

Yea but he is a pitcher, he isn't that great of a hitter. I know he has had a reputation for hitting but whenever you give up a homerun to a pitcher that's embarrasing.

A sweep would be great against the Mets...well it would for both teams, but the Mets are in 1st, and we need to gain on them and fast. It'll be tough...but hopefully dem Braves can pull it off.

We'll find a way to lose the sweep and only take two as usual.

While we take on the Mets, Philly will take on the Marlins, so hopefully the Marlins can get things together and beat Philly.

Now is the time for us to turns things around, I just hope the Braves are up to the challenge.

Comeon guys we gotta think positive about this season. The Braves have a great offense but there pitching struggles. I think we will end up winning the N.L East this season because we have such a high powered offense.

If we get a sweep or even win the series that would be a huge boost to our ballclub and fans. We just need to look game to game, and our pitchers need to step up for us in this series escecially.

The Mets are dead in the water. Anything less than a sweep would be a catastrophic failure for you guys. If you have any post season aspirations, this is the series to grab the bull by the horns...

Oh I'm not down on my beloved Mets. I'm purposely taking a defeatist attititude hoping that a different approach would bring better luck for us during this series. I still hope we kick the crap out of you guys

So here goes:

You guys are clearly superior. There is no weakness in your lineup and your pitching is hands-down the best in the majors. We don't deserve to even be on that hallowed ground known as Turner Field playing you guys. The Jones Boys, Teix, Diaz (why the hell does he prounounce his name die-azz anyway? Is he ashamed of his Hispanic heritage? ) McCann et-al, will wipe the floor with us. I just hope we show up and not miss our flight on purpose...

Seriously though, it should be a really, really good series. I still don't give the Phills much of a shot. They literally have no pitching and their bullpen is only lights-out against us. They're all offense...

Tonights Game August 31:

Turner Field | 7:35 PM ET

John Maine, RHP (13-8, 3.68)
Mets (73-60) @

Tim Hudson, RHP (15-6, 3.23)
Braves (69-65)

Scouting Report:

Mets: The Dodgers tagged Maine for six runs on Sunday, though few of their nine hits were hit particularly hard. An error, a bunt single and several bloops created the bulk of the offense, and three of his six runs were unearned. All that led to a high pitch count. Maine lost in his previous start against the Braves this year, also allowing six runs.

Braves: Hudson had a string of nine straight wins snapped when he suffered a defeat to the Cardinals his last time out. The right-hander allowed five runs -- his highest mark in nine starts -- on nine hits in five innings. Hudson has faced the Mets twice this season and earned the victory both times, allowing three runs on 14 hits over 14 innings. He's 7-2 with a 3.39 ERA against the Mets in 10 career meetings with them.

Atlanta Braves just had a guy on 1st with no outs and then Tim Hudson stokeout on a bunt foul, then Kelly Johnson moved Yunel Escobar over and he got out, then Matt Diaz comes up with two outs and a guy on 2nd and he strikes out. If they are can't convert on those opportunities then it will be tough for them to win a tight game.

Update:

Top 4

Atlanta Braves-0
New York Mets-0

David Wright is up with 1 out, Hudson is on the mound.

Carlos Delgado just took Hudson yard. Gosh!!!! I am sick and tired of this. The Braves have something going and then boom, gone can't recover from their mistakes. Hudson had 2 outs with know one on and he gave up two stright hits to Beltran and Alou and then Delgado came up and hit a three run homer. I am sick and tired of this!!!

Update:

Bottom 4

Atlanta Braves-0
New York Mets-3

Chipper Jones is up in the bottom of the 4th inning with no outs.

Return to Atlanta Braves
