Glavine should just be a Brave, already!

But no. Glavine keeps treating the Mets as some fallback plan. He said he hoped "people don't read into" his decision not to exercise his option because "I said all along that I was going to go home, and I was going to take some time, evaluate where I'm at in terms of whether or not I even want to play next year, then start exploring the Mets and how much they want me back, and any other teams that might want me to play."

You guys can have him. And it's such a shame. He went from feel good strory with his 300th win to a big fat disappointment with his poor showing in a must-win game...I'd say that the majority of this fan base doesn't want him back. He should seriously consider retiring...

I don't see why you wouldn't sign Tom Glavine. Andruw is gone, that cleared up some cap room, he will make some contributions to your team in the win column. Also he has NEVER been on the DL and that's unheard of for a pitcher, he is a very solid, durable pitcher, and a experienced veteran.

The difference is he's your big-time, must-win pitcher. He'd be our third guy.

If he'll play for a mil a year, sure - if not - no.

Glavine cashed in: You have to hand it to Tom Glavine and agent Gregg Clifton. They pulled $47 million out of the Mets over five years, a hefty price for a past-his-prime left-hander.

Glavine was 61-56 with a 3.97 ERA and averaged 201 innings a season. That's not bad, but he was never the ace the Mets signed him to be.

Look for the budget-conscious Braves to sign Glavine to a one-year deal worth $5 million or so with reachable incentives. Glavine can live at home, retire as a Brave and probably beat the Mets a few more times.

That makes no sense whatsoever. If he signs with you guys as a number 3 pitcher and it's his turn to pitch in a big, high stakes game he won't be your big-time, must-win pitcher? Believe me, we would have preferred Predro or Maine on the mound during that all-important crucial game. Glavine's last 3 or 4 starts for the Mets were bombs..

i will guarantee that we sign glavine....he's cheap, only wants 1 year, the personal reasons (retire as a brave, playin with his best friend smoltz, family and home is there), and we can't rely on hampton....

but IMO, we should only sign him after we get done with our other business, which is giving francoeur and tex extensions, resigning mahay, dotel, and willie, and signing a backup 1b(lamb is my pick)....and after all that, i dont see us having any money leftover....

ive probly said that 20 times now, lol....

Atlanta, as a player. Sounds as if the Braves will expend more effort this year to bring him back.

Atlanta, as a retiree. Glavine's family clearly wants him home.

Washington, as a player. Glavine knows Nationals president Stan Kasten well from their Braves days, D.C. is close to Atlanta and the Nats certainly would benefit from Glavine's experience.

I really think this is a mistake.

This depends entirely on the money, and how good of starter the Braves think he is. He should be able to pitch 6 innings consistently, which the Braves desperately need, but he's not good enough to be the #3 the Braves need. I do believe he'll sign but other than that we'll see in due time.

Braves to meet with Glavine's agent

ATLANTA -- While many Braves fans might have already made the assumption that Tom Glavine will be enjoying a homecoming during the 2008 season, Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, says his client hasn't made any decisions or assumptions.

Glavine's future could become clearer Wednesday afternoon, when Clifton meets with Braves general manager Frank Wren. During this meeting, the two parties are expected to take advantage of their first opportunity to discuss financial specifics.

Both Maddux gets 10 million and Curt Schilling received a base salary of 8 million for one year.

I doubt Tommy gives Atlanta any discounts.

Tommy isn't as good as Maddux or Schilling and I'm sure he's willing to take less as long as Atlanta gives him a respectable offer.

I'd be comfortable giving him 6 million, not a penny more.

I have been pretty vocal about being against signing him, but for a one year deal I think he could help the squad next year in the back of the rotation.

Braves make an offer to Tommy today.

Tommy is expected to counter tonight.
